bug in TMPG!!! Or?

Veyr strange think I have recently discovered. I have DVD disk and converted it using DVD2SVCD (109b3) 2 times (!!!): one time isung CCE 2.50, then with TMPGEnc 2.58. See below the results:

1) case: Encoded_audio_1.mp2 103Mb, Encoded_Video_CCE_PAL.mpv 709Mb, bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg 833Mb, (103+709<833) CD_Image_File_CD1.bin 844Mb - OK to fit 80 min CDR
2) case: Encoded_audio_1.mp2 103Mb (simply the same file),
Encoded_Video_TMPGEnc_PAL.mpv 787 (!!!) Mb, bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg 833Mb, (103+787>833)
CD_Image_File_CD1.bin 844Mb - OK to fit 80 min CDR

TMPG created SVCD disc has ben CUTTED OUT app 10% of content counting from the end. With TMPG 2.57 and earlier versions there ware no such effects. Besides that with current TMPG version one more DVD disk has given me the same bug (that time I had no idea and had not made any comparison with CCE).

ANY IDEAS?

You did not mention if you used CBR or VBR (and number of passes) or bitrates etc used. These can vary the disk size and DVD2SVCD gets 1 pass VBR calc wrong, a know "problem" A 2 pass VBR with TMPGEnc (1st pass for *.vaf file, 2nd pass encode) is the equivalent of a 1 pass VBR with CCE)

All I can say is stick to CCE, it works, is quicker and you can get better quality output.

Please, understand one thing - if that case would be for the 1st DVD disc I tried to convert, I think the result would be that I will forget about TMPG, and use CCE. But I have mada a couple of discs with TMPG earlier versions (only then I discovered CCE).

>You did not mention if you used CBR or VBR (and number of >passes) or bitrates etc used.
CBR (as earlier), very slow, 61 min DVD to 80 min CDR (really not too much)

>All I can say is stick to CCE, it works, is quicker and you can get >better quality output.
Agree, but 2.50 is rather old version (works in my case only under Win2k and XP, not Win Me). As to 2.64 - I failed to make it work at all. From the other side - TMPG is developing, and from version to version the quality seems to be better and the speed more.

Now, I deleted DVD2SVCD 109b3 and all TMPG from OS (including cleaning the registry), install DVD2SVCDb2 and pure TMPG 2.57 with patch from the forum. Today evening I will see what it will be.

Bug!!! For sure!!!

Seems to me I have found the place of a mistake. See the following lines in log_file
Test Clip: New CQ value: 52.5781645853636
Test Clip3: Calculated CQ value: 66.2890822926818
Calculated Quality Value: 66.29

Test Clip: New CQ value: 54.4284203939786
Test Clip2: Calculated CQ value: 60.3587513433302
Calculated Quality Value: 60.36

Test Clip: New CQ value: 55.6870401442136
Test Clip1: Calculated CQ value: 58.0228957437719
Calculated Quality Value: 58.02

Test Clip: New CQ value: 49.5540490126952
Test Clip0: Calculated CQ value: 53.7884723782335
Using Quality Value: 57.39

If TMPG would use the last calculated 53,79 - to my mind it could be ok. Where it has taken 57,39 (note, that 2 digits in the mid (3 and 7) exchange their places) to do the conversion - top mystery.
Now I know how to overcome it manually - break the conversion and use the last calculated CQ value w/o any tests again. BUT WHY??? it starts to behave so? Maybe NTFS5? Ok next week I will try NTFS4.

Just because the version number of 2.50 is less than 2.6x, dont assume its old and not woth using. The encoding engine within 2.50 is unaltered in ver 2.62 and 2.64, so whats the big deal. The latest 2.66 has some improvements (slight) in quality but speed is slower again.

Yes TMPGEnc is getting better every day but still has a long way to go to be bug free and show significant quality/speed improvements. CCE is a few $1000 to buy, TMPGEnc is free or has been until of late. You get what you pay for. Dont get me wrong TMPGEnc is a fantastic product, but it is not perfect. TMPGEnc is great for VCD, poor for SVCD. CCE is great for SVCD but crap for VCD.
