Buffer Underun Burn Probs

Trying to burn a DVD-R (Ritek G04) with Instant copy and I keep getting HW Error, Buffer Underun. Checked "Simulate Writing if Possible"... still does it. Checked that I have ASPI 4.6... This never happened in the previous PC that I used this drive in. This is a new PC with XP that I just built. The HDD is S-ATA so I don't think DMA is a factor, at least I can't find it. I disabled IMAPI as well as unchecked "Enable Recording for This Device" or whatever it says. Drive is a Lite-On 411S FW: FSOJ which worked fine on my W2K box a month ago.

What could it be?

Maybe so,but did you check the status of your optical drive? Even if the hd is running in DMA,it doesn't mean that buffer underruns can't occur if your optical drives are running in PIO mode...;)

shoot well I installed the drivers from the Nvidia CD but can I update them at this point or am I looking at a new XP install? I'll try to update them I guess. This must have been the problem because when I burned to HDD first and then burned at slowest speed it was successful, although the resulting DVD (Matrix) is another story... :rolleyes: There must be a science to this one.

Edit: After hours upon hours of researching over at amdmb.com I've found a lot of information... however useful it mayn't be. I've read of BIOS flashes to 1007 (my bios is 1008) and SATA drivers to .33 (which I have from the Asus CD, but could always install the same drivers from Sil's site). Updating to the highest SATA driver, .52 I believe, rendered the OS unusable and had to boot last known good profile.

I need some direction in getting all of the latest (or greatest really) updates on this baby. I have carts to pull with my workhorse :D

in Device Manager go to the IDE controller's properties choose "Update" > choose the M$ standard drivers instead of the nVIDIA crap;

1007 is the latest for A7N8X Deluxe (my board and BIOS state)
1008 is the latest for A7N8X-E Deluxe

i have v1.0.0.32 installed, didn't know that .33 is already out;

defragged C drive, was pretty fragmented. Can burn fine with copying to hard drive first. Having problems with the Matrix... plays but the menus aren't really menus they are just titles with chapters... menu selection is nonexistent it just changes play speed when you use the arrow keys. I used Decrypter then Shrink then Instant Copy. Reauthored in Shrink to remove the extra features but kept the menus, at least they were there but as I said they weren't really menus more just displays with no function. Probably something very obvious but at least I got something on my New PC with my New Ritek G04 -R's that played in my ancient P/M DVD player! :D

I had the exact same problem tonight with ic8. I wanted to do 2 copies of a disc. It burned the first and then came up with a buffer underrun. I never have had this problem before so I can only blame ic8. Saying that the first disc was good.

So far "Copy To Hard Disk First" was the only thing that worked to solve the BU error. I have to defrag frequently and have yet to burn another disc since I've been playing with IFOEditor/DVDStripper.
