Buffer Underrun Detection + CD-Maker Professional

I have a HL-DT-ST GCE-8160B burner and was wondering if anyone knew why CD-Maker Professional does not recognise that this burner has buffer-underrun protection. where it says "buffer underrun protection" it says No but this burner does have this feature. What's wrong?

Not sure on this, but sometimes software does not use all capabilities of a drive. This could be the case here.Maybe a software upgrade will correct the problem.I have seen this issue before.Clone cd did not support certain types of buffer-underrun protection. It was fixed in later software versions.

First be shure which version you are using,if its a paradox release 5.015,uninstall properly, install nti from fosi, and install update from regular site, cose many people reported that they had probs.

Yeah what zver said is the best thing to do IMHO. The latest update from the NTI site will give you version "5.1.3". Maybe that will cure your problem.

I did download the fosi version and i did install v5.1.3 and it says my burner is supported so i don't know what's wrong.......

NTI & LG GCE-8160B

Tribal:

Don't worry that your LG GCE-8160B burner is recognized by the BIOS as an HT-DT-LT GCE-8160B. Doesn't mean anything, as I understand it. LG is related to GoldStar which is related to Hitachi, or whatever, so that's why the ID is weird.

I am having the same trouble with NTI software. I am using the 5.1.9 trial. Also upgraded my firmware to 2.01. Same result as you. NTI 5.1.9 doesn't recognize my drive as supporting buffer underrun protection, CD-text, or overburning. By contrast, Nero5580 DOES recognize that my GCE-8160B supports all three.

Nevertheless, I have an additional problem I don't see you mentioning. If I am using 8x speed media, and I set NTI to burn at 8x, NTI burns the CDR at 16x. Do you have the same problem? Play around with recording sppeds to see what you get. You can e m a i l me at: s l m 9 1 7 8 6 AT l i n k l i n e . c o m. Remove the spaces and change "AT" to the "at" symbol.

Ooops!

Tribal,

I forgot to mention that I am in contact with NTI tech support to resolve both issues (buffer underrun protection non-recognition and inability to set specific recording speeds). The tech guy told me that they would test that LG drive against NTI 5.1.9 and see what happens.

I hope they fix it soon, because I like my LG drive. LG is an actual manufacturer of drives, not a repackager like everybody else, and I'd rather have a drive that's not just a drive with somebody else's label.
