Britain to implement European Copyright Directive from October 31st

http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/8151

BAD, BAD news - the question is, what will it impact, and what should we be sure to grab before they're banned.

A drive with "accurate EFM", perhaps?
Some "Dvd decrypter" type software
Copies of Alcohol, Blindwritesuite, CloneCD etc. - and since they intend to make this illegal, they might as well be CRACKED!

Regionkillers, DVD protection busters.

If you want anything Photocopied, better do it now, as they could call the Photocopier an infringing tool.

For their next trick, they'll probably bring in Software patents as well.

Seeing how its illegal to backup and cd or dvd or vhs tape or vinyl album in the UK already, I dont see this making any difference.
Backups of any kind are illegal here, even for personal use.
Anybody doing such is breaking the law.
However , the chances of prosecution are very slim , unless u are backing up discs for profit.
And only naughty boys and girls do that!

Dave It is not illegal to backup in the UK nor is it legal there is NO actual statute stating it one way or the other but as U say for profit its a Naughty ting

Actually m8 if u read any UK software license agreement, it tells u that u cannot make any copy at all.
Any altered so called backup of a dvd etc is forbidden also.
Just look at any back cover.

As I said tho...nobody at the CPS would ever endorse a prosecution.
This is just more EU bollox.
Why we are still involved with that useless organisation is beyond me.

What is does mean is that programs like CloneCD may face the same restrictions as they do in USA, where the "Amplify weak sectors" function is disabled (since this is a device to circumvent Safedisk 2 protection).

Unless they are intent on forcing the issue, a drive which naturally does "accurate EFM" is just operating with 100% correct specifications, and you can get utilities which will generate a test file which your normal CD Burning program will not write correctly unless your drive does have accurate EFM .... now can anyone say that those troublesome bit patterns will NEVER occur in real life - maybe in a large static area of a BMP file?

Looks like they`ll have to prosecute 95% of Europe`s population then..Where will it end?
Almost the whole world`s population have been home taping with VCR`s,audio cassette recorders etc. for years. The respective governments of the world have encouraged this by allowing this technology to be freely available to the general public.Methinks it`s time for the people to stand up and be counted..This `copyright`directive will never stick...
