Black & White Movies, what tweaks?

ChickenMan,

Are there any special rules for converting black and white films from DVD to VCD\SVCD.. can I lower the bitrate if encoding VBR, any tricks to squeeze more onto a CD?

Specific film is: The Man Who Wasn't There.

A film by Joel and Ethan Coen. Starring Billy Bob Thornton and Frances McDormand.. not a bad film btw.

Very dark film, kinda silver and black.. :D

using TMPGenc.

No there is not. B&W movie take just as much data to show them as if they where full colour. The B&W movies are actually grey scale, not B&W. They also tend to be full screen so they need everybit of data to produce a good copy. I have done many B&W (early Alfred Hitchcock, Laurel & Hardy, Abbott & Costello, etc ) to VCD in the past and generally they come out terrific.

I'm about to do some early Shirley Temple B&W movies to SVCD so looking forward to seeing what happens there.

So I would suggest you do nothing special, just make compliant VCD's or SVCD's.
