Biiiiiggg Problem!

Right whats happening with my computer is when I switch it on I'm

getting a big "beep" then a series of smaller beeps, the monitor LED

flashes (telling me its getting no signal) the computer is on and seems

ok but I don't know whats its doing as I can't see whats going on.

Before it all happened I replaced my video card to install Windows 2000

Pro (which wasnt supported by my current video card) and when I put my

older one in the AGP slot and booted up the computer I got these series

of beeps, I guessed maybe it didnt work and stuck my good video card

which wasnt supported by the windows 2000 setup (ati radeon 7500 64mb)

and I'm still getting the beeps.

Any idea whats going on and how I can fix my computer.

Thanks for any help in advance :)

this is normally an indicator that the video card isn't fully in its slot (or is loose). This can also be due to the regular memory (RAM of PC, not video card).
Suggest you take them both out and insert your RAM first and then the video card (both tightly and properly), otherwise try switching which one gets inserted in first. Often if you have more than 1 memory stick it won't work at first either. So if you have 2 RAM sticks, just use one and you video card till you boot up into windows first. Then install the second RAM stick after.

If problems persist, then it could mean something wrong with your AGP slot.

PS
next time also don't type with spaces per lines (it isn't necessary).

Good luck

Well right now I'm getting no display with either of the cards, im really not happy either as I have a lot to do on my computer. I tried removing the cards, the ram etc and had no luck what so ever. :(

Anyone else think of anything? I have motherboard K7VZA with Athlon 1200 and 512 ram.

may be grasping at short straws here but do you have another monitor to test this on !? monitor you have may or may not be FRITZED ?

also make sure that you have not tightened the card to the case to tight making it stressed i had this problem with my graphics card not the model you have but had similar bios beeps :) answer i loosened the screw just a little reseated the card and hey presto it worked no more beeps ! :) worth a try ! :)

OK Bud, let's talk cmos. Go into bios settings: make sure things look right. You might want to set to factory defaults until you get things stable.

If you can't event get to POST -- before windows activates -- then you've got some serious hardware probs. Try installing a safe, older video card. Boot to safe mode.

If you can't do these things, then you may need a new mobo.

The other pieces of advice are good: check the seating of both the vid card and the ram. Check your bios settings. You ought to be able to boot into safe mode -- if not, we're talking about a world of other problems.

Reset the BIOS? Isnt that a bit dodgy, what does it actually do? How do I do it?

reminder... i get no display at all!

Search in your manual for the "cmos clear jumper" and read what are the positions, normaly in most mobos position 1-2 is normal and 2-3 is clear, if you don´t have a manual you´ll have to look for the jumper directly on the mobo

Reset your bios:take the battery out of your mb for a few moments and then put it back, the bios should then be at its original setup.

Model cars

Puter like building model cars, you need to LOOK. The TINY 'snaps' here and there are for a reason too. I make DRAWINGS when removing vs look at manuals again.

SEEING is the easy part, FILES is the mess.

ooeeeeeeer "CHRIS" isnt that illegal or something lol glad ya got it sorted bud !! like i said i had similar prob with it being under tension with the case screw/backplate i loosened it and it worked ;)

You see it was my dad who noticed, I've been working on it for 3 days the first thing he did was push it right in and it works... that was a moment of feeling so lame lol!

I'm just glad it's up and working again, I got Win2K installed too, all is working fine... big difference lol!

heheheh only one thing worse than a board incorrectly seated is ....

ONE THATS FORCED TOO MUCH and cracks the motherboard in half almost :(

seen that done by a mate !!!
doh !! :(

be warned people !
:)

Yeah thats what I was trying to avoid doing. I actually thought I had shorted the mobo, its these wee silly things that I seem to do.
