Big Problems with writing!

Hi there.

I've just bought a new plextor px-708a but I can't get it working.
I have tried this burner on another computer and it worked on that one.
I'm using win xp sp1. So far, I've managed to burn one cd using Nero, but that's all. Here is the symptom:

When using Nero OR Fireburner (which leads me to think that this means that this problem isn't software related), the drive starts to read the disc, and then it slows down (it looks like it can't read the cd, but that isn't of course the problem, but it looks the same). This procedure is repeated 10-15 times. After that, the program aborts (nero).

I have made a few tweaks in XP and this problem would probably be resolved with a format of c: but that is my absolutely last option.

By the way, these are my specs (just bought the pc):

P4 3.0 C
1 GB RAM
Hercules Radeon 9800 XT
2*120 GB Samsung SATA
Plextor px-708a
Abit IC7Max3

Yes I can..

Everything is working exactly as it should except the writing.

I think I have figured it out:

The writer doesn't like my TDK discs.
Real strange and sad, but that's life.
I was able to record with no problems what so ever on a blank dvd...
