Yamaha F-1 is the best CDR(W) burner available currently, and as Yamaha declared itself out of the CDR/DVD business you can probably get it at a fair price (=slightly less than 100$).
Normally one can get a Lite-On burner for less than that, but having the gem of burners for a decent price does not harm, does it?

cant afford new plus its for an old pc set up iv seen used ones ebay in the u.k for about 10 15 pounds im not fussy whether
its a scsi or ide i hvae a scsi card already its just that iv seen a few yamaha's on ebay iv read that they were good and long lasting so i was wondering what models in the 4x range were good scsi or ide

As a rule of thumb, the scsi components were more expensive and were built to be more reliable and durable. So if you're torn between ide and scsi, I'd surely pick the latter.

But then it's hard to know how a second-hand drive was used. Question the seller minutely on the subject.
