best sound card for games info req

i have a msi kt400 motherboard that has built in sound its ok
but i was wondering whats a the best sound card for games
i use win98se and mess about with mp3 files sometimes as well
i had a creative live card 5.1 but wasnt impressed whats a good
card thats not to pricey

Check out www.driverheaven.net
They have been looking at modding Audigy 2 drivers to run on Audigy 1 and Live - it may be the boost that card needs.

The other common chipset on many cards, is a CMI - and their older ones were pretty awful, but it seems they've turned the corner - at my local computer fair, CMI based 6-channel cards are really cheap, and it's the same chipset as on some "herculese" models - and uynless they do some really clever tricks with card or drivers, I doubt there's much difference.

PS. For Midi on the live, I manged to extract the 8Mb GM APS one from a download - if midi is what you're after, I'll rake out the detail!

The general consensus about the ultimate gaming card was set: Turtle Beach Santacruz- double the Creative card options and one fifth of their problems, plus a BETTER sound output, and you get the idea.
But nothing is permanent, it seems that the Santacruz has met its rival:
It's called M-Audio Revolution, and according to the initial user posts it is a real revoution: superb sound quality for some $ 100 or close to that.
