Best software for DVD to CDRW recording?

I'm new to DVD backing-up, and a friend lent me her copy of DVD Copy Plus. She was so excited, said I didn't need to buy a DVD-RW drive, this would work, etc. And it did work, but funny thing is while it looks pretty decent when I played it back on my pc, if I play it back on a standalone player, it looks horrible. And my standalone player is a good one, a Toshiba. I know given the compression involved, it's not possible to end up with a pristine copy but is there DVD to CD-RW software that comes a little closer, quality-wise,than DVD Copy Plus...?

If your standalone plays svcds then try using dvd2svcd.Quality from that is excellant.You can also use the tutorials here http://www.cdrbase.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=120
