best laptop

Hi Guys,
If money was no object which Laptop is the ultimate one to buy?
I need it for copying dvd's and editing music and sound.
Thanks for any help.

Check the Toshiba laptop series... best by test, unless you want to use Linux as main OS- and toshibea offers no support at all for anything different than XP, currently.
They are a tad overpriced, but flawlessly designed and implemented.

I feel compelled to pronounce that -- though it is by no means the cutting edge -- the Compaq N600c PIII 1.2 gig I bought for $1000. in the Christmas sales is impressive. It comes with Win2k & XP Pro (for those of us puritans who still dismiss the bloat-wared Belial XP) and has a nice Toshiba DVD/CDRW combo drive. Best is its general sense of corporate design ethos -- it's carbon impregnated shell, responsive full-size keyboard, and full compliment of ports, nics & modem. NOT able to replace a cutting-edge workstation, but a very fine mobile and business laptop.

Being a long-time PC user, I've begun to make the switch. I use MACs everyday at work and love the new OS X interface. It's easy to use, easy to configure, and bugs? what bugs?! And guess what..... there's even Linux in there! ;)

As you said, price is no object..... so then I heartily recommend the 17-inch PowerBook G4. It will burn DVDs and iTunes 3 (built in) is a great music editor. You didn't mention movie editing but iMovie (built in) or Final Cut Pro or Avid Xpress DV, the new FireWire 800 (new firewire standard, 800Mbps, makes those 13Gb per hour DV files go much faster;)) makes it a killer video edit box . DVI & S-Video out and an NVIDIA GeForce4 440 vid card, and did I say 17-inch screen..... what is not to love?! Oh and its only 1-inch thick and 6.8 pounds Lookie here..... http://www.apple.com/powerbook/index17.html

It works right out of the box and works quite well with PCs (put it on a PC network and it sees the PCs Win9x and NTx just fine). My boss has one and damn is it sweet! Mind you $3,299 USD is quite a bit, but you did say, "money was no object."

Don't get me wrong, I'll still keep my tower PC (as a gaming box) though. Waiting for games to be ported to MAC is a long one ;) Just waiting for the lottery to pic my number or a nice big job to come my way..... until then I just drool :D

Thanks Everyone for your imput, i have only ever used a pc before but i am thinking about trying a mac system as everyone i have spoke to say's they are very good.
I looked at your suggestion dxkim and that does look very tempting what ever i buy i will let you know.
Cheers Guys

thread names

When I first start reading threads the TITLES get me excited at first (50% of them). Which laptop? I can think of some types of women but mostly SMALL.

So much for my mind when I logon!

Only 1 laptop to have baby.

Alienware Area51m.
P4 3.06
ATI Radeon 9000 mobile
etc etc etc

They also offer upgrade options if you later want to up the processor or video system and so on.

When money is no object. This is the piece to have. :D

Boy have they got some funky colour/colors for their units!
Look¬

Would love on but not in that color.....:D $$$$$$$$

thanks CyberMuZ sure is worth thinking about, i configured my own options and it came to just under £1800 pounds not bad for a P4 3.06.

I was gonna suggest alienware too but i was beaten to it. The one I customized topped out about 5000USD. Hey i can dream can't I? I like the whole idea of the Alien Autopsy system though.
