Best image format ??? Vcd

Thanks for reading.

Okay here's the problem. Using either Proshow or photo2vcd I can produce excellent quality slideshow for the PC but when it comes to making a Video CD it works no problem but the image quality is poor. Even if I run the Video CD slideshow on my computer using PowerDVD player the quality is still crap!!

Can anyone tell me the best format for the images before I produce the slideshow, as I've tried high res, jpeg, bmp, bumping the res up really high and then reducing the actual size of the image down so it's small in the hope that when the program 'stretches' the image to fit the screen the quality will be good.

I'm at a bit of a loss as I think I've tried everything. Everything that is except the guru's on here. So if someone can be of help I would really appreciate it.
If a more details are needed I can give you them if it will help.

When you rip a DVD and make a Vcd the quality is really good and that's the kind of quality I'm after, instead of this blurry crap I have at the moment.

Thanks....

SVCD uses MPEG 2 which gives better quality than MPEG 1 and HIGHER quality audio and support for SURROUND SOUND formats :)

also depending on the PASS rate u set too could also be make or break of a good quality or a low quality result and the size of the outputted mpeg is also a factor a small size screen ouput will stretch to fill the screen but will appear blocky or stretched too :( so a compromise must be met in both QUALITY chosen and SIZE of final product :)

CHICKENMAN could give you more input here but as a novice at messing with vcds and svcds i can say that definatly better quality output is achieved with SVCD over VCD :)

A final note here is that if yer original source of input either mpeg avi etc etc is crappy quality to start with then the result will also be pretty crappy too u cannot improve much on someone elses mistakes or rushed out stuff thats blurry and unwatchable  :)

As for pictures the same again applies if the source is bad then the result will be bad too , also take into account the average TV SET is outputting a signal of 50hz or 60hz (with the acception of plasma screens of major bank busting price bracket)......depending on geographical standards etc much less than your computer can handle which is anything up to 100 or more hz so much crisper as opposed to grainy blurryness of a tv sets low res output :(

Cheers VIPER_1069 for trying to help.

Even as a Svcd the quality still wasn't up to much but I managed to get things sorted out and the quality is now excellent.

Had to make some changes to the resolution, making it bigger then when I made the Svcd the high res' was kept. Looks good.

Cheers again.
