I don't like using commercial programs for such jobs, but if you don't mind about that it is absolutely the best e-mail client for Windows available.

I dont mind really,i mean people got to make a buck.
Thanks a lot :)

Pegasus Mail is another robust alternative - unless you actually view in FULL HTML, it's TOTALLY IMMUNE to Microsoft email worm exploits.
Some complain that updates are few and far between, and afew things are not as good as they could be, but it's a strong contender.

FoxMail is another one that's quite well regarded in alt.comp.freeware
http://www.hazeleger.net/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=SuppFoxMail;action=display;num=1081801471 - a recent update

I, too, would never contemplate BUYING an email client, nor putting up with ad/spyware in one

Of course, there's always the Mozilla project (Mozolla suite approaching 1.7 realease. or the Thunderbird standalone Email client).

http://mahogany.sourceforge.net
Another email/NNTP client - in a state of continual beta, and no idea of the leval of safety this one provides

Using Thunderbird here- I'm not ashamed to confess that the Bat! is much better, but since I don't receive 200 e-mails per day, 30 of them confidential/critical I see no reason to shed money over a client. Thunderbird may be labelled beta or prebeta, but since it is based on Mozilla code it is much more stable than one could suspect.
Pegasus is an exhellent client, just a little bit "dull", fox mail is just OK, and Mahogany... sorry, I'd like to say good things about all opensource projects, but this one simply does not make the mark.

Another trawl of ACF-mentioned (freeware) clients brings Pimmy
http://www.geminisoft.com/pimmy.eng/frameset.htm - most noted for the small size (fits on one floppy) - not sure if it has anything else to recommend it though.

And now, for the award of "most DULL email client"

http://www.washington.edu/pine/
(I though it was "Pine Is Not Elm" - for the typical linux-type acronym)
http://www.washington.edu/pine/getpine/pcpine.html - Windows version

Bite THIS, email worm! - this is email as it was meant to be!

Actually, there WAS a vulnerability in previous versions
http://www.idefense.com/application/poi/display?id=5&type=vulnerabilities&flashstatus=true
But the current one fixes it!

guys, you are going too complex here...I receive daily 10-20 emails and maybe half is a spam..but so far i couldnt find a prewiev funkcion in bat, like for example the mailwasher does :)
still, why you always pushing a open source programs, whats wrong with commercial ones?

Not necessarily open source, but where there is good, honest ad/spyware free freeware, Why buy? - the arena belongs to freeware.
I'll take full coverCD versions as well.

http://www.eudora.com/email/modes/
Eudora is another possibilty, with Lite(free), Adware and paid modes - which leads to an immediate distrust as to how well the adware components are suppressed in Lite and Paid modes!

Paid mode is $49.95, and enables the spam filter, but is it REALLY worth $49.95 more than Thunderbird, which also has spam filtering?

I like the name used at one time in alt.comp.freeware for 30 day trials (and shareware/30 day trial)
"Drug dealer ware" - give you a fix until you're hooked, then you PAY.
I don't do trials, EVER - the only exception being to determine if something I would have bought, is actually no good.
Liteware versions, I'll use as is, and therfore they MIGHT get an upgrade out of me at some point.

PS. Thunderbird has now gone to 0.6 RC2

well, still no prewiev nowhere as mw does,i guess i have to wait until their people fix hotmail thing :(

edit;i just heard about pokomail http://www.pocomail.com/index.html
went thru their forums and it looks ok..looks like it prewiev too :) :) :)
anybody tryed this beaty??

I've been using the bat for a long time, and I'm quite happy with it. I don't receive many emails, so I don't care about previewing. However, you can download only the headers and a configurable number of lines of the messages and then select what to delete in the server and what to download.
