Backup To CD-RW (Made Simple) 5.0 and Backup Made Simple 5.0

Overview
Backup To CD-RW and Backup Made Simple are two closely related programs developed by Willow Creek Software, each designed to meet somewhat different backup needs. This overview first introduces the features common to both programs, then further down it describes how they differ.
Both programs provide a simple way to make backups to CD-RW, CD-R, hard disk, over a network, and many other devices. Both can back up and restore your entire system, including the registry, or selectively back up and restore any part of it.

A simple user interface lets you select which files and folders to back up, and save this "backup type" so you can easily make the same backup again whenever you like. Backup types are very flexible, and adapt automatically if you move or rename files or folders, add or remove them, etc.

Backup To CD-RW is designed to work best with CD-RW, CD-R or other high capacity media, or if you want files to be saved on the backup as exact copies of the originals so they can be accessed directly on the backup media without restoring them first. Its essential feature is that by default files are stored on the backup media as exact copies of the originals, without compression or a proprietary format.

Backup Made Simple is designed to work well with both low and high capacity media, if you require file compression on most backups, and if you are satisfied with having to restore files from the backup media back to your hard disk before you can access them. Its essential feature is that by default it uses a proprietary file format that compresses files, and splits them across multiple discs if necessary. It is also more convenient to use with smaller capacity media like floppy diskettes.
