Backup program choices?

There is quite a bit of choices in backup to CD but, before trying them all, I'd like to get opinions from those that have researched this subject. I use XP pro if it matters.

TIA,

Gilbert

I need to backup most of everything as a first step. The I need to backup additions and changes on a fairly regular basis.

I already use WinRescueXP and backup to CDRW with NTI's FileCD as it creates an ISO compatible disk while allowing me to use the CDRW s a large floppy.

I just became aware of WhatChanged from another thread and just am starting to get familiar with it and it is quite nice to monitor changes to one's whole system. It can be cpu intensive such as when you want to generate a report of changes such as what I'm trying to do now. I'll probably need to tweak it with filters as a changed report does use the cpu for quite some time at high levels when one does not have a very powerful cpu. One also realizes how much data is changed over the course of a few hours of use. If it could be automated to run while one is asleep, unattended, it would make for fool proof backups. There is also the problem of storage capacity as, while a CD is much larger than a floppy, with todays' file sizes we commonly use, they fill up quickly...

I got round the problem using a secnd HDD and an app called Vice-Versa. Basically, it compare directory structures and file changes (either by Time Stamp/CRC or Both) and then mirrors these changes to the other drive.

Although I don't use Packet Writers because I don't trust them, I know it can copy modified/new files to your CDRW as if it was anpther HDD.

Don`t know if u all know this but the latest versions of winrescue allows one to backup to cd(rw) without packet writers.
And set up "correctly" winrescue can do backups of new files and directories as well as the old. Took me awhile to figure this out ;) but this is mainly why I use it. Have found most other backup progs to lack in this area.
