I'm new to all this backing up of my DVD's milarky!!!..

I have DVD Decrypter which rips the DVD perfectly - superb piece of freeware, I use DVD shrink 3.1 to burn it to a blank DVD+R. Have tried playing these on a few home DVD players but as yet, have had little success. The discs play perfect on my machine, but not on a normal player. I have tried playing it through a player which can supposedly handle this media (DVD+R) but still no success.

Can anyone tell me what DVD players they are using to actually play there ripped DVD's?

What media (DVD+R or DVD-R) should I be using for the best compatibility with home dvd players?

Thanks very much for any help you guys can offer.

Quality and type od media play a big part in their playablity. I would always suggest Ritek DVD-R's as I've yet to find somthing that wont play them. If they dont play then its not a media issue.

Wheer to buy, well depends what country you live in but most DVDR suppliers have them for sale.
Hi Chickenman,

Yes, have been checking out some DVD retailers. Thanks

But the plot thickens!…

I have managed to get hold of a ripped/copied DVD, which I copied straight to a blank DVD+R (as it was less than 4.7G), using pinnacle – DVD to DVD. This plays on both my PC and my standalone DVD player
So I know that my standalone machine plays the DVD+R’s I currently have.

I use the DVD Decrypter to remove the Mac, so all that I’ve got are the files in a Video_TS folder. I then use DVD shrink to copy these on to DVD+R. Once I’ve done this, the disk plays fine on my PC, but my standalone machine doesn’t play them and I can’t work out why. I’ve tried the disks on other standalone machines and they don’t play……. I must be doing something wrong.

( I have been able to copy discs where compression hasn’t been required – less than 4.7G, so I know it’s nothing to do with compression issues.)

Are you able to give me the benefit of your knowledge…..in other words can you please help me.

Thanks
Steve

The 2 Folders U burn to your DVDR- or DVDR+ MUST be

AUDIO_TS
&
VIDEO_TS

They must be named exactly as above >< the AUDIO_TS is empty & the Files (VOB's etc) go in the VIDEO_TS

I have not used the new DVD Shrink to do the burning for me. Shrink just links to Nero's burn engine and you have no control over settings.

Most people keep upgrading their copy of Nero but unfortunately the latest is not always the greatest. Downgrade to Nero 5.5.10.x (I use 54) as there are just to many issues with Nero 6 unfortunately.

OK I've been able to backup my first DVD!.....how exciting!!!.

I was found out that I was burning the files incorrectly. So now I'm using Pinnicle SE, which takes a little time, but I'm finding the quality is pretty good. You can't tell the difference from the original.

Thanks for your help on this. Really appreciate it.
