Backing-up A Program & Its Installed Files

Does anybody know how to backup a program & its installed files, including the latest update for the program? For example, I want to backup Norton Antivirus program including all the program updates & virus definitions I have installed through LiveUpdate. By doing this, when reinstall NAV, I don't have to download the program update & virus definitions again.

Use a "Snap-Shot" program, eg. "Total Uninstall", before and after upgrading to find out what files are affected. Then make backup copies of these files. When you have to re-install the program you can replace the old files manually with the files you backed up.

Have a look at genie back up manager at

h**p://w*w.genie-soft.com/

and then do a search here as it has been discussed before.

regards :)

Thanks Lazorman, but there's no way to know the changes made to a program before this "snapshot program" was installed. Besides, I can only open the program I'm upgrading and close everything else.

Thanks to chopster too, but Genie Backup Manager can only backup few programs, and I have none of them!!

Check "InstallRite" at this site: _http://www.epsilonsquared.com/
Perhaps this is what you need. It's a very good Snap-Shot app and also provides "application cloning" as opposed to "disk cloning", simplifying software distribution.

I'm interested in this, too

I was wanting to do the same with Quake 3 Team Arena. I install the programs and their updates, then I do some customizing in terms of game types and add-in maps. The whole process takes about an hour. I would like to have a quick way of restoring to the condition just after a clean install of everything in order to save a lot of time when something goes buggy with the game.

Woud NTI Backup Now perform this trick?
