Avoid Mitsumi & Gigastorage

Just 2 more brands you should avoid.I purchased a 50 spindle of Mitsumi 48X CDR media and had nothing but problems.Could not write above 16X with my Plextor.A search of reviews from the reseller concluded that the majority of people who bought them had problems.

Same thing with Gigastorage.Weeks after writing to some of these discs they became unreadable.

Also be advised that the Fuji brand was manufactured by Taiyo Yuden (the best). They are now being replaced by Prodisc (inferior brand). You may still be able to get TY's in old stock, but be careful. ;)

I bought 100 Datawrite 48x cdr's and have had 18 naff ones out of 30 used so far....will definately not be getting these again

Woody, do you mean Mitsui or Mitsumi ? I've been using Mitsui Gold CDR's for almost 8 years now and I cannot ever remember having a problem with any of them. Then again, I never burn higher than 16x anyway as 99% of them have been VCD/SVCD or Audio disks.

I'm currently using GigaStorage made DVD-R's on my A05 and they are working great. Not one problem in a couple 100 disks so far.

Cool..haven't seen any gigastorage dvdr's here yet.Just had really bad luck with their cdr's,won't buy them anymore.

I have seen the Mitsumi DVDR's here (never the CDRE's though), made by Princo and utter crap also.

The DataBank and MaxData 4x -R's here in Oz are made by GigaStorage and a lot cheaper than the Ritek and just as good as far as I'm concerned.

LOL! :D

Black??Never seen those here by Gigastorage. The ones I bought were 2 years ago.Maybe quality control has improved since then. The batch I had became unreadable, and had lots of crc errors. They were the worst I ever had. ;)

agree with zoz3ko_ol ....black cd made by gigastorage rocks....imo gigastorage quality is better than cmc ,from my experience...
anyone heard of melody cd-r(s)?

Reviewed 8cm and 90min Melody...

8cm were apparently Digital Storage Technology (DST)
YUCK, MISERABLE at rated (24x) speed.
Guess what, they got worse at higher!
From 16x down to 8x, the results got better, but still excessive C1 errors, and then at 4x, the errors shot up.

The 90 min, identified as CMC (not a great start).
Burned at rated (24x) speedm, the had moderate scores on the low speed read, but poor ones on high speed - not too good!
Not much better at 12x
Quite steady at 4x, but stil returning way too many C1 errors at high speed.
(this was not a "FULL" test suite)

It's a good site to check for media opinions - the tests may not be done on "PRO" test gear, but the good and the bad shine out.

Since the early tests, he's added a Plextor Premium to the lineup, and if enough media is available, the results from the two make interesting comparisons.

The verdict for Melody, would seem to be - AVOID - there's a chance that the bog-standard 80 min might be better, but I wouldn't bank on it!

though zat my asus was the only pricky one :D:D lol

well depends on manufacturer...recently the normal ones have several manufacturers,no longer cmc or gigastorage,n they r yes crap....as long as its gigastorage or at least cmc,it's more or less ok
btw i have a 8cm cdrw melody & it's made by infodisc
