avi to vcd with nero???

please help me!!!! i have just started to burn films from avi onto Vcd's. the problem is when i burn the Cd's with nero the percentage bar will stop at any time. so lets say it stops on 79% like it has been doin when i have been trying to encode the film bad boys the problem is it will carry on without the percentage changing from 79% so eventually after about 1hr and 20 mins it will burn the film onto the disc. then when i play the film on my dvd player it will play the film fine until about the 44th minute and then the picture freezes but the sound of the film carries on therefore i am able to listen to the film but not watch it!!this is very frustrating as i have wasted a lot of discs thinking that the next time i burn a disc it might work!!well more fool me!! i am really beginning to lose my temper now so if anyone can help me i would be cery grateful!! thanks.
ps if there is anyway that i can burn straight from avi to disc rather than changing it to an mpeg could someone please let me know!!!

nero is proably the worst encoder eva full stop try tmpgenc or cce simple also use the guides ,thats what there for .im sure everyone will agree where all willing to help but questions like this have been answered a million times over therofre we have guides .USE THEM!

man im real sorry for being liek that i was and well still a noob check out doom9 or dvdrhelp or the guide here for more info .the common mistake people make is that they wont top quality and fast its alway best to use the higher quality settings no matter ho long it takes casue ur gonna only encode oner but wacth ...how many times? exaclty!
