AVI to DVD Video problem

Hi all,

I've tried searching for an answer to the following problem but can't seem to find anything so here we go......................

Sometimes when i convert avi files into DVD's i have a slight stutter every second or so.

It doesn't seem to affect all the movies i convert but does seem to affect most. The sound is ok and you mainly notice the stutter when titles or credits are moving across/up the screen as though there are a few frames with exactly the same image creating the slight stutter. This occurs on both of my stand-alone players and also when using the DVD Burner drive in the PC.

I use VirtualDub to check that the audio and video are in sync. before i convert abything.... I then use TMPGEnc to convert to mpg and then TMPGEnc DVD Author to create the DVD Audio TS & Video TS folders/files and Nero 6 to burn those files to DVD.

I have checked the files before i convert them to VOB's and they are fine but once they are VOB's the stutter seems to start.

Anybody any ideas?? One thing i havn't had chance to try is what the converted VOB's play like before burning but i havn't any on the HD right now to check with.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Dave.

The stutter is probably caused by converting an NTSC avi to PAL. Leave NTSC as NTSC and PAL as PAL and you want get any stutter. If you MUST convert NTSC to PAL, then dont use TMPGenc directly, but read the DivX to DVDR Tutorial.

I'll give it a try but i'm pretty sure i've left PAL as PAL and NTSC as NTSC...... When i convert the AVI to an MPEG ready for converting into VOB's on a DVD-R the file still plays ok...... It's only once the dvd is done that the stutter starts.

Cheers

Dave.

If the mpeg plays fine, but the DVDR doesnt, then its most likely your DVD Player doesnt like the media your using, maybe its time to try some different media.
