AVI to DVD conversion question

I've been using Chickenman's AVI to DVD conversion tutorial with great success. But I'm having trouble with
one particular conversion :( .

When I compare the avi files of an avi that converts with no problem and an avi file for which I'm having trouble I note only the following differences using Gspot.exe : the "good" avi file has a FPS of 25, an x:y: of 480x256 (1.88:1) [=15:8],I/L = 1 vid frame (40 ms), p=496 Split: No, and a Qf = 0.276 bits/pixel, the "bad" file has a FPS of 25, an x:y: 512x272 (1.88:1) [=32:17], I/L = 1 vid frame (40 ms) Split: Yes and a Qf = 0.302 bits/pixel.

All program settings are identical for both conversions.

The error message I'm getting is: "Video check Sum is different from that of a different pass".

I'm running Win2K and re-booted just prior to running the job. The PC is operating fine and as stated, I've made of couple of dozen AVI to DVD conversions with CM's tutorial all without incident.

Could someone tell this noob what I'm doing wrong ?

Thanks.

I'm running version 2.50 of CCE. I assume that the patch is an actual piece of s/w ? I've searched here, and googled my guts out and went to the CCE site and I can't find the s/w anywhere :( . Lots of references to it, but no actual bits and bytes.

Does anyone here have it ? If so I'd pm you with my e-mail and ask you to send it. I'd appreciate it much  .

On my, I've been shown up by a dancing chicken  . Albeit an above-average chicken, but a chicken nonetheless :p

I find solace in the fact that I AM a noob, and thus had not noticed (on this most wonderful of web sites) how files can be attached to messages  .

I have applied the patch and it seemed to apply correctly, but alas I received the same error message :( . I'll try a re-boot for the sheer fun of it and give it another go.

Failing that, I guess I have two courses of action, slow this pc down as it IS an overclocked AMD system, or try the FilmMachine, although if I specify Cinema Craft version 2.50 as the encoder I suspect I'll have the same problem. What I'll never understand is why it only fails (thus far) on this one AVI file  .

In any event, thank you kind chicken for your help :D .

Overclocking any PC may be okay for most general PC use, even games playing. But once you enter into the world of video conversions and particularly using AVISynth & CCE, most overclocked PC will choke.

Yes, but you'd think that said choking would occur for all AVI to DVD conversions, and not just one of them (thus far). That's the part that bothers me  . I guess I'll try easing back on the memory timings first and then start to wind down the overclocking  .

No not really, not all AVI's are created equal (it would be a smooth sailing world if they were) and some require more work than others to encode. Your sitting on a knike edge with any OC PC.

Ah, ok, I assumed "everything" was equal for each AVI conversion. It's good to know that it isn't. Maybe I'll rachet down the OC just for this one conversion and put it back to the original OC settings afterwards as I've never had problems before :D . I have a need for speed you see  . Thanks, CM.
