Hi guys,

Hope its the right chapter of the forum. Trying to convert an avi (xvid) to mpeg .... Used how-to's on this site and others step by step, but can't solve my prob.

I managed too create audio in .wav using virtualdub, Gspot gave me info on fps and stuff, now in put the avi and the wav in tmp and start convert > i get an error immedialtely.

Tried different set-ups (also priority setting) , codecs are onboard (Gspott says so), even tried it with different software , but this also uses tmp in the background (dvd2svcd)

What do i do wrong ?

I suspect its a codec problem. Even though you say you havbe them installed and GSPOT found them, that doesnt meen they are the correct ones. Get Divx 5.21 from www.divx.com and if Xvid, get 1.0.2 from http://www.koepi.org/. Un-install your previous codec first before installing either of these.

You can always try The FilmMachine for your AVI to VCD.

Filmmachine did the trick indeed (quality aint that great, but its converting backwards i guess) .....

Where do i uninstall those codecs ? Don't know exactly and don;t wanna crash my system .... never installed an xvid myself, just thrusted on gspot regarding this matter, as far as i know i have divx 5.01 and kazza lite codec pack, various video software, want it all (to keep) working :D

and kazza lite codec pack,
this could very well be the source of your problems as it often installs codecs you dont really need :(

its easier and safer to only install the codecs GSPOT tells you as and when needed for each file type :)

Gspot only tells "2 compatible codecs installed" not exact name or so ....

get the same error in tmp with other files AND when trying to convert to mpeg2 (wanted vcd for example, can burn dvd and thought u could just burn .avi to dvd, but it needs to be converted anyway)
