Avi-Mpeg2-Dvd player compatabile prob?

First off sorry if this thread is in the worng spot.
Thats no problem I moved it The-poacher
Ok i am taking avi's turning them into mpeg2 files and taking them(Mpeg2) to burn onto cd-r so i can play them on my Dvd Player so i can watch them on my T.v.

Prog's being used:
Virtualdub 1.5.3
TMPGEnc
DivX 5.0.5
Windows media Player
Nero Express

This is how i have been doing it.

1. I am using virtualdub to grab the wav file.

2. Then i use TMPGEnc to get my video source which is my original avi, audio file which i used virtualdub for, then my output where i want to have it saved.

After this is done it changes it to Mpeg, then i use Nero Express to burn a SVCD (best quality, DVD compatable). After the process is done the picture looks perfect from windows media player, but when i put it in my Dvd player to watch on T.V. it says NO DISC. I even tried to put it on VCD but i still get the same thing.

What am i doing wrong? What am i leaving out?

Does Your standalone play (S)VCD (& I mean play) not the manufacturers blurb it does <> a lot of standalones are picky about (S)VCD especially SVCD)

If It Does Try Chicken Mans Tutes

Probably the media. Will it play audio or mp3 CD's on the same brand of CDR?
The Cd's that i am using work with MP3's i am just wondering if i have a bad file that i downloaded. Because when i burn it to a cd-r it plays just fine in windows media player/winamp/powerdvd/etc... that i use but when it i put into the DVD player for my T.V. i get no disc/no play.

What is the diference between P/N(Pal/NTSC)? I know i am a nub wanting to learn everything.

so if i have a video with 25fps then i should choose PAL from TMPG, and it should work fine in my DVD player(standalone)? Because i know for a fact my movie is 25fps and everytime i select NTSC. Could this possibly be my problem with them not working in my DVD player(standalone)?

Selecting NTSC for a PAL source in TMPGEnc should just lead to poor motion, it should still work. Selecting PAL for a PAL source you will not have any such motion problems, however if you live in the US, then it probably won't work due to the fact that they seem to (from my observations) mostly sell NTSC only equipment over there.

There is a strong possibility your standalone will not play vcd/svcd or even any cd-r at all.
Post the name and the model of your player so we can check it out.

Well i got 2 standalone's

1)Sony DVP-NS300 it says dvd/cd/video cd on it also

2)Panasonic DVD-RV30 it also says DVD/VIDEO CD/CD player

I am not too sure why this is happening, could it be that these wont play (S)VCD because thats what i am trying to burn them as under nero.
But like when i burn image with a .cue file is that making it a VCD or (S)VCD? I am using NERO to do all of my burning.

if im reading this right from the 1st post correct me if i am wrong guys here but the 1st post says conversion to MPEG2 , mpeg 2 is usually SVCD !? is it not !?

and reading the post above this one 'peekaboo' says both players can play VCD'S but no mention of SVCD ?! so im gunna take a wild guess here that both players cannot play SVCD ?! :)

Well today i went ahead and went step by step with chickenman's Tute on converting to VCD not SVCD this time. Well once i got the cd all done and burned it still won't play in any of my DVD player's. Anyone have any idea what is going on, or why this isnt working? Please help this is making my head explode.LOL. Thanx

You are using Nero Express to re-encode to a DVD compatable MPEG2, not a SVCD. No wonder it will not play. Besides Nero encodes suc big time.

But as Bertieg said, nether of your DVD Players will play a SVCD so even if your doing thiongs right, it will not play.

If your unit can play VCD's, then I would suggest you Demux your SVCD MPEG into its Video & Audio streams (TMPGEnc will do this) then Multiplex them together in TMPGenc but select VCD and NOT SVCD. Then burn as a VCD with Nero, but say yes when asked to burn as a non-compliant VCD. Then try that. Its a dirty trick that sometimes works, so worth wasting one CDR to test out.

peekaboo, already said (twice) that he/she already tried a standard VCD, so I doubt a non standard one would work any better.

Also said that the same media works fine for mp3's which kinda ruined my original theory.

Thanks a lot i will try that out. I have done it that way but i dont remember choosing yes for non-compliant VCD.

?

So am I reading this right? If you are converting an .avi file that is 25fps you should select PAL on the TMPGEnc program. Then burn it the a VCD or SVCD? This will work in US players? I was under the impression that you had to change it to a different frame rate for it to work, can someone please clear this up and let me know what I should do with a 25fps .avi file to convert it to a MPEG? Thanks.

It is always best to leave a PAL avi as PAL when re-encoding and NTSC to NTSC. Just about all PAL DVD Players will play PAL and NTSC stuff flawlessly, but not all NTSC DVD Players will play PAL stuff. The best way is to do a small encode and waste 1 CD to try it out on your DVD Player.
