Thanks for the info. Been using version 3 for a few months and very pleased. Looking forward to giving this one a try.

I had a similar problem on my other machine when I installed it. It would give me a PRC error and would not let me uninstall it. Here's how I fixed the problem: This is in Win XP Pro:

1st: Go to Start then Run, then type msconfig, then Start_up tab and disable the 2 avast startups.

2nd: Start, Run, type regedit, under the edit pull-down select find. A search box will come up, type in Alwil, delete all registry entries for this. Then do a search for avast, delete all entries for this as well. do both again to make sure you got them all.

3rd: Now delete the folder Avast is in and all of it's contents.

4th: Restart your computer and do the install again, This time when it gets to the user agreement, scroll thru the whole agreement to the end before clicking on next. It should go smooth after that.

It worked on my machine!

Hope this helps.

Thanx, soundforbjt, I'll try same thing now cause authors didn't respond to my mail :(

I'll post my results;)

And I've found that the only way to uninstall it from my WinXP Pro is deleting files, folders, cleaning registry:(:(:(:(:(

That's all about freeware, I rather prefer shareware:D

I am registered user of Avast 3 for about a year and sometimes I consult with them, so I wrote to authors to decide about answering your questions.

Using a fully updated ver.4
CPU load is some 25 MB- not great, but not bad either.
The scan speed is just great, and the time it needs to update definitions and program modules incredible.
I also have a licence for the top-of-the- iceberg AV program currently (NOD32), but I use Avast4, as when scanning through folders with lots of comressed files I get some slugginess on responce, even with NOD, while Avast 4 lets the browser respond at a snip.
I will agree that version 4 has still some quasi-beta characteristics, but else it's probably the only AV utility that will do a proper job without letting you notice that you have installed it. And the comparison to v.3 is simply out of place, v.3 was a notorious false alarm addict, while v.4 has simply dropped this bad habbit completely.
