Auto Play and Force Player exit

I've just made a backup of disc 1 of Shaka Zulu. I removed static item 1 from VTS 00. Now, the menu doesn't come up. I see the opening sutdio credits display then my hardware DVD player reports a disc error. If I hit the menu button on the player's remote, things seem to work fine from then on. I have left the "Auto Play" and "Force Player exit before playing next item" options UNselected as that is their default.

Should they be on? What, exactly, do they do?

Great program, btw, like the title screen with Autumn.

The "Static Item" probably had an invisible button. Once deleted, the player waits for a command that never comes. It's best to use Menuedit as a viewer for Menu Items, as you never know what might be hidden in there.

I check "Auto Play". It speeds things up. Once you decide whether to keep or remove an item, it opens the next one automatically. That can be usefull when you want to check every item.

"Force Player exit before playing next item" is better left to the default (checked) as it closes the player before starting process. If the viewer is left on, especially if you use Menuedit, the process crashes.

I'm old. Who's Autumn??? :)

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

Arianos is right, but I'm working on this and soon it will show whether there are hidden buttons or subtitles

but what was the static item you removed?

cheers

p.s. Autumn will be the chick on the splash, have you got the adult version fredthompson?

Static item is a 15-second nag screen. Immediately following that is a studio promo video which I kept and it does play.

If there's a hidden button, why would the promo play properly then everything freezes?

Yes, there's quite a bit of Autumn stuff floating around.

the button may be auto selected and set values for later use

think of a language selection screen. If it was set to select the hidden English button automatically but if it was removed then it plays the French version instead, in this case not at all ;)

I'm on it tho and with the MenuMod you will be able to check for hidden buttons;)

The disc is at my sister's house so I can't check it right now. I'll be back there sometime next month. IIRC, this was one of those cases where the VIDEO_VTS.IFO has a bunch of short segments. I saw that earlier tonight when playing with another title. The disc has a single title and one section of bonus footage. Nag screens, mastering credits, etc. are in VIDEO_TS.VOB. However, there were about 20 menu entries. Methinks there are a variety of ways people code autoplay and scripting in their menus, similar to menu-over issues with HTML.
