audio problems

When I open an app, while playing mp3 or wav ,I get a sound distortion for 1 second,it sounds a bit like metallic sound when skipping the samples .....playing cd's works fine...it's very annoying,it happens almost everytime when I start different apps..
It affects both WinAmp and WMP,and EAC......I uninstalled and reinstalled audiocodecs,WinAmp,disabled WMP,removed and updated my soundcard drivers, removed my soundcard to enable onboard sound chip......
It seems that the mp3's and wavs are ok.
According to EncSpot and a wave editor, there's nothing wrong with the music files, they also play fine on my other partition, but I can't get them to work properly on my win2k.....I have 512 sdram, and always between 340-370 free,so that can't be the problem... Can't figure this 1 out....

Could be you have a sound scheme enabled by accident. Maybe a program you installed enables a sound scheme by default. Worth a check. I can't think of any other possibilities.

Try to increase buffers length in Winamp->Options->Preferences->OUT Plugins.. often works with this problem

you can also try, to let Winamp run in real time priority:
Windows Task Manager > Processes > right klick on Winamp > Priority > Real Time

THX for the support,guys..:)
After a lot of installs and uninstalls of proggies, and after connecting/disconnecting/updating devices and other hardware,I FINALLY found the problem.....
My Promise Ultra TX2 was acting up.......probably an IRQ conflict,I moved it to another PCI slot and it seems to be solved now....

:D :D

ahahah, we seem to have the same symptoms so it must be the problem;i'll show this to my consultant.

But did u have a lot of BSOD as well or just the bad sound?

Not really a lot,but it happened more frequently than now....:D
I noticed that only 256MB of your ram is recognised......perhaps 1 of your sticks is faulty or isn't correctly fitted in it's slot.....if it fits correctly, run memtest to check if the stick is faulty.....http://www.memtest86.com/

well, my consultant took the 256 ram stick and put it back in my old sony and the sony could read it fine, so may be it's not the memory; but at any rate, she's bringing over 1 512 ddram stick today so that should work.

plus, master told me that the 2 256 should be in slots 1 and 2, and he noticed that from my stats listing, they were put in slots 3 and 4, so may be that was the culprit???
