Audio out of Sync after burning

Hi All. First off, thanks to ChickenMan for the top-quality tutorial - nice work. I've followed it all and have fallen at the final hurdle, though:

I've converted two 22-minute .avi files to .mpg (PAL) using TPMGEnc

After processing, they play perfectly in Windows Media Player, audio is completely in Sync.

Burning them onto VCD at 4x using Nero v5567 that came with my external USB Plextor burner seemed fine, but when I play them on my home DVD player the audio is permanently (from start to end) about 1-1.5 secs ahead of the video. I don't have a DVD drive in my machine to check it on or another DVD player to test it on - any suggestions anyone?

I've only had the burner a couple of weeks but no problems so far burning data, audio, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Barn

Thanks for the comments on the Tut and welcome to the forum.

AVI's can be a pain in the butt when it comes to a/v sync so your not alone there.

The VCD you have made does not require a DVD ROM in your PC to play it, just a CDROM will play it fine, like you burnt it to a normal CDR not a DVDR ! Try playing the burn VCD in the PC using Windows Media Player (not always the best player, I would strongly recommend WinDVD for playing your VCD's on the PC) The file to open is called AVSEQ01.DAT and is in the MPEGAV folder on the CD. You will have to change load options to All Files *.* in MWP else you wont see the file. Play it, does it play okay on the PC?

If its okay, then you may have a problem with your DVD Player not playing VCD's correctly. What Brand & Model is it?

If out of sync, then suggest you De-multiplex (de-mux) the MPG file, then re-multiplex with (re-mux) with Wombles MPEG2VCR and put in a 1 or 1.5 sec offset. You may have to do it a couple of times to get it spot on, but only takes a min or so each time.

Let us know how you get on.

Doh! Of course it's a normal CD. I was never too good at the whole Lateral thinking thing.

So, tried it on the machine via WMP and it works fine. Looks like its my Bargain basement DVD player thats causing the problems. I'll try and check it out on another make and model.

Cheers for the help

Chickenman

Ripped my first dvd to vcd last night.
Used Chickenmans great tutorial and ripped Robbie Williams live at the albert hall (swing concert).
Tried it on my dvd standalone and the audio as above was slightly out of sync.
I turned it off and turned it back on and it ran spot on.
I have an aiwa dvd and this proves how tempremental dvds can be playing vcds.
Thanks alot Chickenman and I hope I'll have something soon that you'll want so you can see my/your handywork in action.

Cheers bud:D

daveml, thats good news on the VCD. A couple of 100 or more conversion and you will be the expert. Then you can have my job! :) :D
