Audio conversion in avi files

I captured a avi in pcm format....How i can compress the audio fornat in something better then cbr mp3??I mean like mp3 vbr,or even better ogg or he aac..In guess i can take the wav out with vdub mod but how i can put ogg-aac back inside??
If somebody knows some or even some good tut would be best :)

ogg vorbis, forget it. he aac, forget it. aac is possible use AVIMux. Actually come to think of it I think he aac may work, just that coreaac doesn't display it correctly. Then again I could have been right the first time in which case it would play just missing all of the sbr part.

If you want to mess around with the above audio formats I would highly suggest that you ditch the AVI container.

Say you decided to go with MKV instead of AVI. Just add your original AVI to mmg, untick the audio. Then add your he-aac, ogg vorbis, etc. and save out a new file. Could also add chapters, tags, attach fonts for subtitles, attach covers, etc.

For he-aac you could also go with mp4.

Then again there is always ogm.

Could also use VDubMod, just add the streams under streams. Double click to disable the old one, make sure that the video is set to direct stream and resave.

Well,the only reason why i wanna try new format is so i can get better size of movies..Couse mp3 cbr takes a lot of space so if i can put some more efficient format i gonna have more space for video..Anyway the reason why i said he-aac couse its the best format easily for low bitrates..Specially with pn stereo it was really highly rated on h-audio and doom 9..Anyway i just checked and i found in Nero6 option to mix he-aac for video(i guess you have it to encode it that way)???..Anyway gonna check those sourceforge page to see it in for matroska..so far i heard people talking about it but never even saw one file with mkv extension-video or audio :rolleyes:
Anyway thans a lot for this info;
Btw forum gained so much with you in video field :)

Well i sawed wave with vdub and compressed to mp4 with foobar but when i try to put that back in it doesent accept vbr??And i know for sure that both nero`s encoder and faac will write vbr,well faac is more abr actually..Anyway how to do it?This is geetting a madnness for me :mad:

For audio the extension is MKA.

VDub doesn't accept mp4's as input. If you want to mux audio from an mp4 into Matroska, use mmg. For mp4's use Graphedit and 3ivX's muxer. For AVI's (not such a good idea) use AVIMuxGUI.
