Audio Amplification

For some reason my computer doesnt put out very loud sound into head phones, just wondering if anyone knows a way to amplify the volume other than just the basic control panel volume method. Also in case you are wondering i have tried other pairs of head phones to make sure it they were not at fault.

From a soundcard designed to feed amplified speakers, headphone output is usually unsatisfactory.

I've seen headphone outputs on a few CHEAP speaker sets, but this doesn't seem to be that widely taken up.

The 119A and 117A appear to have headphone sockets, but I'm not certain if they are actually fed through the amplifier.

Should not have something to do with your computer, but rather your headphones' sensitivity and nominal input impedance. You shouldn't expect a pair of AKG K-240's sound loud through a typical computer line-out, would you?

headphones

hallo

You should use an headphone-amplifier to get better sound and volume. There are a lot of audio projects (handmade headamplifiers) or small ready to use amplifiers.

Thanx for the help

Thanx for the help guys, im going to look into getting a new sound card soon and a new set of speakers, i will let you know how it goes.

Any soundcard with a LINE OUT rather than built in amplifier, tends to be incapable of providing adequate drive directly to headphones - but I don't know of anywhere selling a sensibly priced headphone amplifier, though it's an ideal novice electronics project. As I said, FEW speakers bother with a headhone socket.

I have a set of those Tsunami's, so I can check to see if they do act as a headphone amplifier - I just LOVE the claimed "180W PMPO" from a 3 watt pair of speakers - just HOW do they work that one out ... and that sort of bizarre power claim tells you they aren't high quality speakers, but they just might be a passable headphone amp
