ASUS unveils 8x DVD±R writer at Computex *updated*

I found this at cdfreaks, it looks old but I didn't see a post about it. But I got to say will be nice when we have a lot of 8x burns to choose from and 8x -R's.

ASUS has announced a DVD writer featuring 8x DVD±R write speed at the Computex show in Taipei which started yesterday. The drive has the model name DRW-0804A and is also capable of writing both DVD+RW and DVD-RW in 4x speed.

ASUS DRW-0804A Write speed
DVD-R 8x, 6x, 4x, 2x, 1x DVD-RW 4x, 2x, 1x DVD+R 8x, 6x, 4x, 2.4x DVD+RW 4x, 2.4x CD-R 24x, 16x, 12x, 8x, 4x CD-RW 24x, 10x, 4x Read speed
DVD-ROM (Single) 12x (max) DVD-ROM (Dual) 8x (max) DVD±R/RW 8x (max) CD-ROM/DA/R/RW 40x (max) Random Access Time
DVD 140 ms CD 130 ms Buffer size
Internal data buffer 2 MB

While you sure can't complain on the DVD write specs of the DRW-0804A only 16x/10x CD-R/RW speed is a bit slow compared with for example the Plextor PX-708A's 40x/24x CD-R/RW speed. Previous DVD writers from ASUS have been based on Pioneer burners so there is a good chance that Pioneers next model (DVR-A07?) will have the same specifications as the DRW-0804A. You can get more details about the ASUS DRW-0804A here.

Edit: ASUS has now updated specifications. For example the CD-R/RW max speed has now been changed to 24x/24x.
