Asus DRW-0402P/D quick erase probs.

Hi everybody!

My new Asus DRW-0402P/D in my XP Pro PC refuses to quick erase properly. The quick erase progress bar is VERY fast, (10 secs or so) and Quick erased disks cannot be read from windows as blanks but they CAN be written to and when burnt they behave normally. So there is no problem with the finished DVD, but isnt this strange? Windows should recognise a quick-erased DVD (before it is re-written) or no? The problem appears both with the drives bundled software (RecordNow DX) and Nero 6.01. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If you are burning UDF filestructures in them there's no need for fast erase, erasing is done in parallel with burning (with most programs, anyway). You will need fast erase only if you burn ISO's on your DVD's.

Thanks for your answer. What I am trying to determine is whether the recorder is behaving normally or not. Since my "problem" has a workable workaround i will live with it if it is a design flaw and not a malfunction. Also the shop has a 15 day no questions asked return policy so it is imperative that I act now. Taking this into account, what do you think about this recorders behavour? Is it normal that windows cannot recognise a quick erased DVD+RW unless it is written back?

Thanks for your attention.
