aspi

Hello everyone! Currently and lately I have had trouble making any ASPI work for me on win2k and XP. Now I'm using WinME for burning and 2k for other stuff because of its stability. My problem is that regardless of the the kind of ASPI layer I install on Win2k I get ASPI error messages, neither grabbing nor burning is possible. Earlier I used Win2k alone having no trouble with ASPI installation, and that is no wonder since ASPI should work on any platforms, I suppose. One more thing. Recently I've bought an Ali chpiset (AliMAGIK1) ASUS motherboard, and problems started to occur. However, I don't think a chipset should (could) cause such problems. The motherboard I used when working with Win2k flawlessly was equipped with VIA chipset.
What can be responsible for the ASPI layer not working on 2k and XP right now? I'm using Win2k for internet mainly, meaning, I have anti-virus software and firewall installed. But I had them installed on Win98ME as well, and there were no problems with that configuration. Is there a way to fix it? Is there an ASPI layer that would work perfectly on Win2k/XP? I have tried ASPI written especially for NT basis, still no success. Let me repeat, I'm having these problems only since having this m'board equipped with Ali chipset.
I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thank you

Hey tcgabor, Try Forceaspi. ForceASPI ignores the system requirements which are imposed by Adaptec's own installer and allows you to install Adaptec ASPI 4.60 (1021) on your PC regardless of your hardware or software configuration.

The scripts which make up ForceASPI will automatically detect your operating system and install the appropriate files correctly.

Thx, although, I think, I have tried that one as well because of its excellent capabilities. But thanx, anyway. Tóth Czeper Gábor

The only one I found to work without problems on 2K/xp is the one from nero/ahead.

You cn find it and download it from the download page on nero site.

I had initial problems, mostly with other apps overwriting (ex: CDRWin4) the ASPI layer proggies. Running 4.71 now, ASPICHK.EXE provided with Adaptec ASPI 4.71 shows:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ASPI32.SYS 4.7 - 5/23/02
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WOWPOST.EXE 4.60 - 6/21/97
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WINASPI.DLL 4.60 - 6/21/97
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WNASPI32.DLL 4.71 - 5/23/02

When I installed CDRWin4 (or 3.8 later builds), the WOWPOST.EXE and WINASPI.DLL files got overwritten with newer versions, and most things using the generic ASPI stopped working until I reinstalled 4.71 again. Now most all burning apps work together just fine.
:D

Nero aspi for Windows NT/2000/XP and you can grab the rest here------h**p://195.88.216.21/de/index.html#download------
