Anyone know any good freeware disk sanitizers?

http://www.killdisk.com/eraser.htm - free version doesn't do DoD level
http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/ - several methods, Gutman and DoD
http://staff.washington.edu/jdlarios/autoclave/ - Autoclave - a disk sterilizer on a floppy - not DoD, but levels up to 25 passes! does not support SCSI
http://dban.sourceforge.net/ - Similar to autoclave

Many of the others, while they don't actually do a DoD erase, provide the same coverage, and with high densities and PRML, the depths that were required to clean an older MFM or RLL drive are not really needed - even a single zerofill would be a forensic challenge.

The "destructive" tests in manufacturers utilities would also be good, since they test the surface using "difficult" patterns.

DoD erase sounds good, but even after one zero fill, it's going to be an expensive job to even try to recover anything.
