another svcd problem

i downloaded an mpg file. i tried builing an svcd using vcdeasy. at first it told me the mpg was probably a dat file renamed to mpg, so i used the tool to convert it. no problems.

i load the mpg and let it analyse for a minute, no problems again.

i put in chaptering in for 1 every 4 minutes and create the bin/cue files.

I get weird playback on my standalone and powerdvd. powerdvd reports strange times during playback and sometimes when i skip using the timeframe bar the clock resets to 0 at different positions in the file.

when i play it in the standalone the clock doesn't move at all and using the forward button to the next chapter doesn't work properly, sometimes it skips every 4 seconds. at first i thought i had put 4 seconds in the chaptering on the program but i didn't.

so lastly i burned the mpg normally using nero with no chaptering to see what would happen. it appears to play back correctly but still the clock stays at zero.

the annoying thing is i am not convinced that the mpg has burned fully because i haven't had time to watch it through and powerdvd sometimes reports the whole thing has 18 minutes long when it's at least 40 minutes.

The movie wasnt "Another Life" by any chance? I had exactly the same problem with it. I extracted the mpg from the Riff encoded mpg, but demuxed with TMPGEnc and remuxed with Wombles DVD2VCR then authored in VCDEasy, behaved a lot better but still not perfect.

no it was an number of the beast, maiden dvd.

i burned disc 1 using vcd easy and disc 2 using nero. they both behave weird.

i watched them today, both discs play through ok except it starts to go out of sync after 20 minutes. hitting the pause and restart button seems to fix it.

does demuxing and remuxing happen to fix any sync issues? i can't be bothered with anything more complicated.

always do it yourself. i guess thats the motto :)
