AGP card voltage?

Recently I asked my dealer for a new video card to replace my aged TNT2 M64. He said that all the newer cards support ONLY 1.5 Volts on AGP slot and they wouldn't work on my MB, which btw isn't TOO old - MSI K7T Turbo (via KT133a) and works fine with Athlon 1.2. I don't need a new processor, I don't need a new mobo, I need only a new graphic card. Now my question is:

Is he fu**ing me in my healthy brain???
(a saying from where I come from).

I searched on Google, but I didn't find anything specific.

Most cards will work with your mobo but you should know that in most cases this will void the warranty and reduce the lifetime of both your agp card and mobo, more details are provided in the link that newby has posted

h**p://www.ati.com/support/faq/agpchart.html

Most of the ATI cards are "universal" - sesigned for AGP 2.0, but supporting both 3.3v and 1.5v working.

This is true of many cards.
If yout mothrbord has 4x mode (and I though those VIAs DID) then it should also have the 1.5v support.

All newer cards do not just support 1.5 volts Intels boards are going with the 1.5 volt so you have to have cards that support that if you want to use their boards
It depends on if your board is AGP 1.0 or AGP 2.0 compliant

Don't be too sure about that Radeon - ATI get a lot of flack over drivers, bad ones, no updates etc.

My Geforce 2 MX (Creative) says it needs an AGP 2.0 slot, but is keyed universal and works fine in my AGP 1.0 slot.

The only real reason I used that ATI link, is that it's a damn good illustration of the issues.

And compatibility is a bigger issue - I tried to use an S3 Savage 2000 - and though universal keyed, they DON'T go at all in a 1.0 slot.

If the AGP slot is fully capable, then it should have NO keyways - and if the card is fully capable, it should have BOTH key slots.

The only case I know of, is that some Intel chipset motherboards (845 chipset?) only support 1.5v, and cannot use older 3.3v only cards.
