advice on Email checkers-antispam tools

As anyone using Email I'm sick and tired of spam, so I'm looking for something to check Emails before downloading the good ones with the addition of a good antispam tool to make this easier and timesaving, ideally with something to dissuade spamers to continue bugging.

I've try with Mailwasher pro 3.1 but couldn't make it to check my POP3 account. It wouldn't connect with the server, and then Mailwasher gets stuck there trying to connect without a way to stop it other than rebooting. I went through all settings, help file and FAQ's but just couldn't make it to work (it did work with hotmail though)

so, I will appreciate if you have other suggestions

hummm have you gave mailwasher yer pop3 details 'pop.whatever.com' or whatever and your user name and login for your pop mail ?!

its pretty much the same as filling out your pop email details in outlook express etc :)

check that you have not misspelt any details or if its case sensitive that its in the right case :)

are you using a firewall !? have you allowed mailwasher to act as a server with incomming and outgoing access !?

under connections you can specify a proxy server too :)

Works fine here with POP3 as well, think there an import button that will allow u 2 import all U mail settings :)in the accounts options :)

Of course I did pals. I used MailWasher import button and checked that everything was OK under the POP3 account properties. I did disable the auto options in Outlook Express. As said, I searched the program's help and FAQ for and answer but still can't find what's wrong.

Anyway, I just went all over it again. I'm using Sygate firewall and did allow Mailwasher full access as server and client and checked that all settings looked OK. Finally I tried with the firewall set in the allow all option and lastly with Sygate completely closed but still MailWasher won't connect to the freaking POP3 server (only to hotmail account) wouldn't pop an error window either, just got stuck there forever, without letting me to close the damm program, not even with task-manager.

So I can recognize that I must be missing something, cause Outlook Express is working normally if called, but I've been unable to tell what's wrong. That said, I would greatly appreciatte if someone here could help me to resolve this puzzle

You know there must be two mailwashers!!! In fact I know there is. because I using mailwasher 2.0.28 infact they have a newer one but this one works good for me and I use it for a pop3 account. So if you want to give it a try: http://www.mailwasher.net/

I'm using ePrompter (http://www.eprompter.com)

It's free, really ugly, but do the job: it checks all kind of mail account (pop3, hotmail, yahoo...) and then give you the choice to download the headers only (so the message are still "not read" on yahoo...) and you can see the subjet/sender so you can delete the email without looking in it, usefull with spam.

I did try another called Spam Inspector, that intergrates with outlook express, did take a bit of settin up & after i uninstalled it i was wonderin why mails were not appearin in me inbox, turns out it left its rules in place & this was auto movin them 2 the deleted bin

But i do find mailwasher pro 3.1 works perfect on mine

Another thing 2 check is some antivirus progs (Avast, AVG) do run Ur account through their own server, maye somethin like that has changed Ur original settings, but U prolly checked that :)
