Adsl

Just wanted to know if it is worth jumping from 56kmodem to adsl and if so what are your rated connection speeds and what speed do you actually get on your downloads

thanks

a definate yes !!! from 5k a second on modem to a whopping 60k on small stuff and upto 512k on bigger stuff as it tends to be more effective the more workload it has to do the better it works !! :D

mp3s instead of 10 - 15 mins takes bout 2 to 3 mins ! :D

flash and shockwave and real media clips are almost instant ! :D

and web pages no longer take forever even with lots of pictures on the page it loads fast !! :D

only gripe with adsl is the cost but you forget the cost when u can download in ultra fast time !:D

Simply put - you'll LOVE it :)

Gotta agree with Viper on everything he said there :)

As an example, I D/L a 433Mb file last night - started before I went to bed and there it was this morning in all its glory :D

If you play online games, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it - I don't think I could EVER go back to a modem.

The big thing to take into consideration is security - this thread highlights most of the things to get in place BEFORE you connect and offers to some other opinions on ADSL.

all depends on how good your DSL server provider is. It varies from different parts of the world.
For the most part though, it will be a HUGE improvement for you from a 56k modem (that means 56kbps) which is 7KB max.
If you're lucky, you can get one of the 1.5Mbit connections which is like 180KB or so max. Myself am using a cable connection at home at 512kbps (64KB max) but only averaging about 200kbps lol (have one of worlds worst ISPs lol).
Nonetheless, it's still faster than a dial-up modem.

hmm...like shadoe said before ...
DSL is very fast ... but it depends on your ISP and which type of dsl he uses ... for example
ADSL (512download/64Upload)
XDSL up to (8Mbitdownload/8mbitUpload) advantage @XDSL same speed for up and downloads ...

it's very true; compare dial up with adsl is like night and day, even tho my adsl is not very fast unfortunately; my max up/down speed is 12/40 kB/sec, my isp claims i m far away from their hub so that explains the sucky speed.

thanks for all the replies looks like i will get it.

strange that i was not sent any emails regarding this post by this forum while i get emails about all other posts

my phone line just got enabled for ADSL on friday ,yipe!
now i am just waiting on my ADSL moderm to get here and
and then i am hoping i will have UT2003 in 7 or8 hours :)

(as you can gess from above, i realy hate 56k :))

BAH could you not get the modem when you got adsl installed !? we have the choice to buy ours from our isp and then the engineer brings its along if you do !? it must be pretty darn fustrating having an adsl socket all set up and nothing to use with it

yep it is very frustrating , whating for my moderm to come from my isp , espeshely since thay have been charging me for using my ADSL account for 8 days now and thay havnt even sent me my ADSL installation pack yet so i can use it.:rolleyes::eek:

when you think about it (56K = fast setup but is hell slow) and (ADSL = slow setup but is a very fast connection)

i think i mite see if i can pick my moderm up from my isp because all this wating is making my go crazy:) :)

downer :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: yeah my engineer brought mine with him ! i had to install the software but hey whats new lol but software installed it was a case of reboot with modem connected to usb and hey presto up and running ! :D

Yeah ADSL is very good, but in fact it can cause a addiction to download more and more software

be aware, your cd collection will grow and grow :D :D :D :p

Download speed constant, no worries about your phonebill

I LOVE IT !!
