Acer 1208a burner !!

Hi guys,

here at home I have an Acer 1208A burner.

It was the first model, which could write all CD protect games including the EFM approx. one year ago.
Nevertheless on many sites it was said to be a state of the art product.
But that's uninteristing. At the very first time on Olli's website stood he could do RAW DAO 96 and EFM.
After several months the site changed and now I read RAW DAO 94 and EFM.
In explaination to this Olli wrote that two bytes are used for error correction.
Is this bad ?!
I have to tell you, I was able to copy any type of games till now !
But where will I need the two bytes, how important are they ?
And why Olli changed it could only do RAW DAO 94 ?
I don't understand this, not really :( ...

Thanks in advance, hope somebody of you could give me some answers.

Best regards
DDP

DAO RAW 96 is the best writing mode. The Only protection that has been using 96bytes is PSX (libcrypt) protected games. It was thought that 94 bytes would do this protection too(it doesn"t)the extra 2 bytes are generated by the burner. That's where the problem lies. You need the full 96 bytes to be sucessful with protected PSX.

Hope that helps!

There have been a few mistakes on Olli's writer list.;) It is to be expected. It is a difficult chore with all of the writers on the market.

Copy protections are always being updated to complicate matters further. The latest SD2 has disabled many writers that used to copy it without problems.

Tages (for example) still can't be copied directly by any writer.

i've a Acer1208a too (good writer! ), firm 9.CC

but i can't understand why under some cdrsoftware (like Blindsuite,Discjuggler) tha RAW-96 is 'fully' detected ! and with somes others (like CloneCD, CDMate (only Raw-16 detected!!!) only < RAW-94 can be detected !)

So, normally using Discjuggler or lasted Blindsuite (which could 'normally' be able to write as Raw96 with it) The Acer 1208A 'could' be able to do PSX-Libcrypt too!

Just an hypothèse...(théory only!)

my personal opinions:
The CDMate author could do an effort for at least reconize it as Raw-94 (usefull for Securom2) and not only as Raw-16 writing mode!

Hi,

I am very sorry that this reply comes so late, but till now I didn't get any further Emailnotification, that's the reason. Accidentally I am looking here into this thread.

Goozer ?! Have you ever tried to copy a PSX CD w/ copyprotection which needs full 96 byte subchannels ?
I haven't done it, would be very interested in the results, but maybe I will give it a try and go to a video shop and borrow such a PSX CD.
Oh and like you said, it's very confusing. Woody, you said the list of Olli's page isn't up to date, but I don't thinks so.

The one creator of CDRW software like Olli says it supports RAW DAO94. If I use Blindsuite I am able like Goozer to burn with RAW DAO 96. CDMate says something very different, that it is not able to burn RAW DAO96 neither RAW DAO94, only DAO16 is supported.

What's right at the end ?! I guess nobody could give us an acceptable answer, out of Acer engineers.
I should give it a try, maybe, maybe not.

Ohh Goozer, I have the best model of the ACER 1208A, the 4 MB Cache version, but I have to say, although he made his job very well till now it is a really sluggish device.
In reading CDs it takes to long and only supports like many other drives the PIO4 only.

That's why I have a reason to change and here my new question.
I newly saw on Olli's page that he updated his Hardware list.
He differs between EFM nearly correctly and absolutely correctly (two stars).

Am I right in assuming that two stars are necessary to burn the latest SD 2.5.x copy protection ?!
Could somebody suggest me a really good drive, which is able to burn all copy protection, should do his job in burning of Audio CDs well and MUST support UDMA interface.
I thought the latest Sony drive would be exactly match my Toshiba 1612 DVD.
Could somebody shows me a list of drives, which is able to copy latest SD protection ?

Okay guys, that's all at the moment.
Waiting for pretty replies.

And woody, would be nice if you visit some more times the IRC.
Nick is Patriot or daPrinzip. See you ! :)

So long
Sqeazy - an ISO burn idiot ! :)

The two stars on Ollie's site are for the best burners with EFM encoding.Your burners only support 16bytes writing. It doesn't do the full 96bytes!

Best Sd2 burners to date are the Liteon's,but only certain model #s.Liteon 24102B,Liteon 32123S,and the new 40X writer.I left out the slower writer models;)

The first 2 on that small list are no good for audio protected discs.I've heard the 40X Liteon will do audio protections, but need confirmation.;)

Hi Woody boy, if I remember you are the guy from the kangaroo-country ! :)

Which sources tell you the Acer burner supports DAO16 only ?!
Have you a list of really good burners ? Maybe not only LiteOn !

Sincerely
Sqeazy

Nope,I'm from Canada bud.;) Those are the cream of the crop (writers). You won't be taking a chance with that short list. They are the best ones for the new versions of Sd2!

I helped create and confirm the original SD2 writer's list when Sd2 first came out.My list has been copied and changed along the way...It is now obsolete with new versions of SD2!;)

Many SD2 writers now need 'help' with the AWS option of Clone cd,or Betablocker. There are no guarantees with any of the other writers.

Just remember they are always updating copy protections so we can't copy them!;)

Good thing Olli is around!!:)

My source on the Acer is various forums, and Olli"s progress.I keep an eye on it.Many people have complained about the Acer's not being able to do protected PSX (libcrypt).

If someone has managed Libcrypt with your writer I think they will post!I remain skeptical.

Personally i tried with somes PSX Libcrypt protection using my Acer1208A (under CloneCD and Blinsuite) and the copy failed at the 'cd-check' made during the game.(tried with CrashBash)

BUT the Acer1208A CAN BURN Securom2 protected game! (raw94 is enough to bypass this protect!) under CloneCD and fews other... BUT NOT UNDER CDMATE ! ...(which limited the hardware to DAO-16 instead of DAO-94!) So only the Q channel could be copied but not the R-W channel...

dao 16

ok this maybe somewhat unrelated

but i would like to know then--what is the recomended software to use for a burner that only supports upto dao 16??

Basically any software can be used with DAO 16.The only no goes will be cd&g(karaoke).Cd-text (I believe),and of course no PSX(Libcrypt).Remember CD-Mate is still in beta, they are constantly updating it's capabilities.

Same goes for Blindsuite,it is still evolving, although, both Cd-Mate and blindsuite work well with most popular writers.:)
