Alex Van Kaam's MBM (MotherBoard Monitor) is an excellent solution... probably the best out there. It supports most motherboard chipsets and sensor chips. It can sense temps from Mobo, CPU, Hard Drive, and Graffix... as well as also sensing fan speeds. Freeware too. ;)

Update>>> Laz posted about a new version here link . Check it out. ;)

Another choice is VCool.
From their web page at _http://vcool.occludo.net/ :

"This little utility will cool your Athlon/Duron processor on Via KT133 or KX133(A) (VT8363, VT8361, VT82C691/693A/694 or VT8371 +VT82C686x) chipsets during idle"

You can set it to slow down to cool better or shut down at user settable temp points, and you can display the motherboard temp, CPU temp, and or fan speeds on the system tray, or in a balloon when you place the cursor over the systray icon. My systray icon displays the MB and CPU temp.
