A good DVD burner and what software?

Hi all,
I'm in the market to purchase a DVD burner for my computer. Any advise on the brand, model number, and best software to use with it is appreciated. I'm looking for one that will copy DVD movies and have them play on any DVD player. Thanks for all your help.
:D

You will now get every Pioneer, Sony, LiteOn, etc owner saying theirs is the best. They will ALL burn dvdr's for your movies with no problems (your DVD Player may be a problem however).

A good start is to read the recent artical at TomsHarware page where they compare 11 burners, read it at http://www20.tomshardware.com/storage/20031027/index.html

As for software, I suggest you read the Tutorials, the Forum posts etc as the BEST foftware for you is the one that give YOU the results your looking for. These will defenitely differ from what I or others would expect or use.

Indeed, you will find that we all think our DVD Burner is the best. ;)

All three of the brands above are good and reliable.

Look at Tom's hardware (CM's link) and here... http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters.php?

Do a comparison of what you require, what you want it to do, and how much $$$ you are willing to part with. In the end, the choice is yours.

Having said that, I'm a very happy owner of a Pioneer A06. ;)

I recently went through the same process of deciding what to buy.

In the end I brought the Plextor PX-708A and used Nero 5.5.10 that came supplied with the drive. I was using Nero Ver. 6 but went back to Ver 5.5.10 because it’s so simple to use for burning DVD.

I use DVD Shrink to rip DVD’s, this is very simple to use and burning using Nero is quite easy.

The results using this drive and software are excellent.

Thanks for all your help! I do not have a DVD burner as of yet and will take the suggestion on the sight to go to. I have a Lite-on CD Burner and it has been great. I'll probabley go with that brand. As for the program, I have been using Nero to burn Cd's without a problem. I read someware (I don't remember where) that there are different types of blank DVD's. Something about DVD-5, DVD-9, ect. Whats up with that? Are they capable of holding more info, the higher the number? Last question, Are the DVD movies that come out able to fit on a blank DVD and can you split a DVD into 2 DVD's if it doesn't fit? Thanks again for all you help.
