8x burner going at 1.38x...

i have an 8x dvd burner that only goes at about 1.38x (used Nero's "test drive" feature). i also did a dvd burn that took about an hour. i thought it would take less than 10 minutes. even regular cd burning takes a long time (over 10 minutes when it's supposed to write at 40x). my drive is an "Exact" brand. didn't come with any drivers. cant find them online either. my comp detects it as a generic 8x burner. how can i fix this!? i want 8x speeds! the drive is in secondary master.

what media are you using ?!

try RITEK BRANDED or at least RITEK dye medias if you are using poor quality media even if it says 8x you will not get 8x if its bad media :(

Anyway a bit more info on your media and system would of been better.
But try and enable the DMA setting for your drives. Also follow this guide here
Is the burning software the most current version? Check www.nero.com
Themore detail you supply the better we have a understanding of your problem.
Welcome to the forum... :)

i tried going into device manager and all that stuff to change the DMA, but i see no "Current Transfer Mode" drop-down box. i only see "DVD Region Settings" in the advanced settings tab.
you have to open the IDE controller channel settings not the drive settings;
