hey all

currently i have the Delta 80m cpu fan...i wanna get rid of it as its way too loud..i just want a new cpu fan thats quiet and gives low/reasonable temp so what cpu fan do you think i shud get?

btw i have Thermalright AX-7 heatsink

thanx all

Hey, I've got a Thermralright SLK-800, and I'm using some Coolermaster fan with a speed-control-rheostat-doohickey. I'd trade you for that loud Delta (or anything that has the word "Tornado" in the name).

Quiet pcs are overrated and quiet performance pcs are oxymorons. "Yeah, Bubba-dee, I got me a monster-truck! -- a quiet one!

The other option would be a fan controller - though I'm not sure if a throtlled back Delta screamer would still be noisier than a fan designed for lower CFM to begin with.

Some chipsets have speed control that can be activated by Almico Speedfan, but that's no help with a Delta, as that beast should not be motherboard powered.

If the heatsink can take it, it might be worth looking at TMD fans - but they seem to only be available in 70mm size.

TMD (Tip Magnetic drive) relocates the motor to the corners, so the fan has a very small hub area with less dead zone.

Another option is an Aerocool blower, that has NO dead zone

- But following through this review, it did NOT perform well on an AX-7.

PAPST (PABST ?) seem to be the name to look for in low noise.

And finally

AX-7 reviewed, with varying fans - easy to see why the blower (or the TMD) would NOT be a good choice - the entire profile is set for the main airflow of an 80mm fan.

Fans has different noise profiles. Some has motor noise(rattle, vibration) others have more air noise(hiss) Fex zalman has some very nice fans except the fan blades are so "twisted" they actually sucks\cuts air over the fan housing making a very intruding whooom sound(when reaching a certain speed, at lower speed however they are excellent) The blade profile is also important for moving air in the right direction and not spreading the airflow.
I have found panaflo, smartcooler and zalman fans to be of high quality and with minimal motor noise. I have used papst in the past, but they have a very distinct rattle even when running on 4\5 v.
Heres some more info on fan\noise.

A very good rehobus(fan controller) is the sunbeam rehobus, supports 0-20w per channel(allowing several fans on one channel) its rather inexpensive too.
