Hi,
I have had 4 burners and all dont play on my pc.
1st one - returned to supplier and they admitted it was faulty.
2nd one - sounded as if screw loose inside.
still got 3rd and 4th.
I would have thought it was my pc as 4 burners faulty is against all odds right?
All act the same way.
Original set up 1 teac cd burner and 1 LG dvd-rom drive on xp.
I installled the sony inplace of the dvd-rom and it was doing the following.
1) blocky when playing dvd and then 10 seconds later would crash the player.
2) when cd inserted it would recognise the files but after disc was ejected it would still hold the previous contents even if new disc inserted.
3) if picture opened from disc it would be yellow and red.
4) if music played it wouldnt sound as clear as through my cd burner.
5) burned dvds but none would play (ps2).
6) it could not burn cds.
The drives are all recognised as sonys when installed and they are all on as master primary and all are recognised as dma 2.
i tried the sony check program and it said there was a problem with the drive.
I thought maybe it was a program conflict so I semi-reinstalled win xp.
(All folders intact but registry etc in virginal state.)
The dvd burner was installed before the software this time. still no joy.
Win media player refuses to play dvds and power dvd plays it for 10 seconds.
Putting my old dvd and cd burner back in they play and burn beautifully.
I have loads of software capable of burning and playing dvds (not all installed) so this is not a problem to try different ones.
I even changed the cable as i thought it was maybe that but if other 2 drives worked why would it be ribbon cable.
The supplier has now said it may be one of those incompatability issues with my system and the dvd burner.
Any thoughts on the matter as it is now driving me insane as installing a dvd burner drive surely can not be this difficult.
To put the cat amongst the pidgeons I once changed the drive over and it played a dvd perfect and i copied a dvd perfect. Unfortunatly it was so late at night i set dvd decrypter to shut the pc down.
The next morning it would again not play a dvd or successfully.
The program said it was successfully but it would not play them
It seems to be if I can play a dvd it is reading the disc and is therefore able to burn 100%.
