2x vs. 1x in burning

I have a NEC 2500A 8x burner that I just bought. I was hoping to backup the 30+ PS2 games that I have because several of them are pretty scratched up already. I went through the guides and tried backing up using DVD Decrypter. I read that 1x is the best to burn at because it runs faster in the ps2 that way and at higher quality, or something like that...

Any way I'm using Memorex DVD-R 4x media, and I set it to burn at 1x, but it ends up actually burning at 2x. I tried it a little bit, but couldn't really test it, but it seemed to work alright....but I don't have time right now to test it real thoroughly. So I'm curious is there any way for me to burn at 1x, or will 2x be good enough?

Heh, i'm dumb...I didn't even think of the media. I got some ritek in today though so I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Well I got some of that Ritek G04, and i select 1x in dvd decrypter but it ends up burning at 2x anyway. I have no idea what is the matter, but I guess i'll try to locate a nec2500A forum or something similar and ask there as well. I would hate for these backups to be messed up. And I don't have the time to play through them far enought to be sure at this point. I appreciate any other help or advise you can give. Thanks!

I have the 1.06 firmware, which is the newest I believe. Will using one of those other firmware, made by other people, do the trick in letting me use 1x?

Hmm, well i guess 2x it is for now. Hopefully there won't be any problems...I've seen more and more posts about people burning 4x and higher lately, so maybe it doesn't matter as much as people make it out to be.
