2 questions :pagefile.sys and bsod

1/ my computer now has 3 diff. internal HD altogether; i dedicated 1 separate partition on a secondary hd (the one that doesnt have the OS) for the pagefile.sys (the partition size is about 1 gig and i set the pagefile to be about 900 MB). I never noticed any problems before, but recently when i bought a new HD and make that new HD the primary HD with the OS, i notice that in the event viewer, it kept giving me warning message saying that the disk with the pagefile is at or near capacity and that i need to delete some files; now that message never came up before when i had just 2 HD in the computer; should i be concerned?

2/ ever since i added the new HD and make it the primary HD, i have had BSOD's left and right; prob. 5 times since yesterday. I didnt know what info to write down so here are some rough info that i hvae gathered; please help me
---------------------------------------
1/ address A00C3772 base at (i cant read the handwritigng); datestamp: 3cdb4146 win32k.sys

-------------------------------
2/ kmode exception not handled
address A0013A21 base at A0000000 Datestamp: 00000000 - win32k.sys

if ....first time see error, restart; if it happens again, follow this direction:
a/ check if there is adequate disk space; if a driver is identified in the stop msg, disable it or check with manufacturer for updates; try changing video adapter.

b/ checkwith hardware vendor for any BIOS update. Disable BIOS memory option such as caching or shadowing. If need to do it in safe mode, then do it in safe mode.

------------------------------
3/ address 80430C03 base at 80400000 Datestamp 3d366b8b ntoskrnl.exe

------------------------
4/ address BFDAC236 base at BFD4D000 Datestamp 3dc24536 cmmda.sys
Driver irql not less or equal

address: 804254C6 base at 80400000 datestamp 3d366b8b - ntoskrnl.exe
----------------------

whew; i hope that makes any sense to any of you wizards 'cause it means didly squat to me; i am trying to search on google as well but I appreciate any help you guys can give me

Driver irql not less or equal at module cmmda.sys means most probably that there is a problem with your modem driver, or an IRQ conflict (is the message about cmmda.sys or cmmda32.sys?- the latter sounds more likely). Check at device manager if you have any IRQ conflicts now that you have added the new HD.

if you have set the pagefile to the fixed size of 900 MB, then you can easy ignore the warning;

about the BSODs:
How did you get your OS to the new hardrive, completely new setup, copying or mirroring?

Did you install the latest chipset drivers (VIA Hyperion drivers) for your KT333?

Greetings from
Duracell

thanks a lot guys for responding!

scarecrow: it's cmmda.sys i believe;i'll check the device manager again but i dont remember seeing any warnings about conflict before but it sure acts like there's some kinda conflict.

duracell:

ok, about the pagefile warning, it's good that i dont have to worry about it, but it's weird the fact that it never gave me that message before when i had 2 hd and slated a separate partitoin on the second hd.

when i had this new hd installed, installed windows 2000 fresh from the CD, didnt transfer it or anyything like that; i know better to not mess with those things

i havent installed the chipset thingy even tho i went to that website b/c i dont know what to install; the names dont look quite exactly the same as what sisandra tells me about my mobo's stats

i went to event viewer and under systems, here's the error message that seems to popup everytime i have the bsod

OK it's not a KT333 but it's a KT266 model;
does not matter, simply install the VIA Hyperion drivers (formerly known as VIA 4in1)
homepage: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300
ReadMe: http://downloads.viaarena.com/installguides/HyperionDriverInstallationGuide.htm
download: ftp://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/4in1/VIAHyperion4in1447v.exe

at last don't forget the USB filter drivers (download depends on USB v.1 or v.2):

just attach the 64k DMP file here; scarecrow is able to estimate it; i don't know how he doing that;

ok, i'll dl that 4 in 1 driver and then update the usb thingy;since the mobo is brand new, i'll use usb 2.

and here's the rarred file ofthe minidump so that u can see what it means

thanks again u guys in advance

The last call before the dreaded ATAPI dump call is from module wmilib.sys which seems to have been triggered by a USB modem (with Danish locales set on it, or so I read from the dump). Since no curious drivers have been loaded before that I may suggest "almost"safely that you need to update your USB/ 4in1 driver. Use the last 100% MS certified one.
By the way does your mainboard have an active onboard soundchip?
Please do me a favour: Put your Windows installation Cd in your CD-ROM, and then open a console shell (or DOS box, call it whichever way you like it...) and type in:
sfc /scannow
Then pass here the created log file- so we can see if some drivers fail to load properly at startup.
If in any difficulty to create the log, check this link:

OK duracell, i dl the viahyperion4in1447v.exe and put it in c:\temp and tried to install it but i still get that error; the error says that it cant' run 16bit window program; is that possibly b/c i formatted the main partition to be ntfs and it can't recognize 16 bit?

also, i tried to go to your link to dl the usb filter driver, but it's kinda tough for me to be certain i pick the right one, so i dl the file
8738_wme.zip; can u please double check that page to see if i dl the right one before i install it? i have windows 2000 and all the info about my mobo and soundcard are listed in my first post.

Thank u soooo much!!!
btw, it bsod on me 3 more times today, and i wasn't even here at the computer; as u can imagine, i m not a happy camper

You should be able to run both 16- and 32-bit applications, no matter if your filesystem is NTFS or not. Being unable to run them clearly indicates that some system files have failed to load properly.
Do what I have suggested above and pass here the log- it will show up whichever module has failed to load.
Oh, I hope you have not used over your installation any crap like TweakXP or such, right? Else you may start reformatting right now...

scarecrow, i did the sfc /scannow but where is the log located?

and no i dont have tweakxp installed; i 'm on windows 2000

about USB drivers
Do not install those downloaded USB drivers! they are made for WinME;
about Win2000 i found this hint: "Due to licensing agreements, USB 2.0 drivers are not available for download. USB 2.0 drivers are available through Windows Update." maybe they are already included in SP3;

about VIA Hyperion
1. try to extract the hyperion manually first: right click on VIAHyperion4in1447v.exe > extract (with WinZip or WinRAR) to C:\temp
2. clear both of your Windows temp folders
3. then run setup.exe

but certainly scarecrow is right about an not running and needed system process;
and sorry, i don't know where the "sfc /scannow" logfile is located;

thanks duracell, yeah, i did extract that file VIAHyperion4in1447v.exe into its own folder; within its outermost directory, there r 2 .exe files (Via4in1.exe, and setup.exe); the weird thing is that when i double click setup.exe, it must have done something but then the file (setup.exe) just vanished!
then i double click on via4in1.exe, it seems to do something in the background but i cant't tell what it was doing or installing.

About the log from sfc /scannow, i figured it out; it's in event viewer under systems, and here r 3 logs it created

So- some "program" :rolleyes: seems to have modified/replaced your MS Visual C runtime libraries with a corrupt relase... and since most Windows apps are built around C and clones, the rest are self-explicable...
PLZ report any possible problems you may have from now on.

ubamous3

so the file protection scan has replaced the faulty system file, now try again to install VIA Hyperion;
