15 reasons to buy a LiteOn

Lots of people wanna know what's the best cdwriter to spend their money on,so I decided to post my personal experiences...:)
I know that my opinion isn't totally objective, but the reason I post this,is because I wanna prove some facts...;)
I always recommend LiteOns when people ask for a decent cdburner.....why?......because you get excellent value for the money you have to spend.
I know that Plextor is supposed to be king of the cdwriters, but I think that the cheap LiteOn drives come pretty near by,and isn't that what we all are looking for,a cheap, reliable drive???:D
The tests I did, were done on a poor Athlon 800 with virusscanner and firewall on,so they can differ with a real decent system...;)

The data test is done with a 40X Verbatim, atip says Mitshubishi chemicals.....the audio test cd is also made with this 1.....
The burned audiocd test is done with a 99 minute Datatrack cd,atip says Plasmon....
The pressed audio cd test is done with a 7 year old audiocd....;)

If you take the time to download and check this images,I think you'll find out that LiteOn's are not hyped, but that they can prove their value...;)
They are not the poor readers as claimed on some other forums..:D

RW nice one bro was that with an original Liter@52x or a lower version tweaked?
Any way I love the Lite-on brand of drives. :)

Naturally, everyone has to go on their experience but mine was less happy than yours.

Although I was using an old and slow Plextor, I bought the LiteOn because so many people were recommending this brand.

It seemed to be happy with the cheaper brand of CDRs but would write coasters from time to time. This behaviour became more common when I started using Verbatim.

Finally, out of frustration, I switched back to a Plextor and my problems disappeared, irrespective of the CDR brand I was using. After writing more than 300 CDs, I have only had a couple of coasters and in both cases, they were my errors.

I accept that Plextor are still rather dearer than LiteOn but in my opinion, the build quality is far better and the reliability is far higher. I will never buy another brand of CD writer.

has liteon resolved the problem with protected AUDIO cds yet !? ROADY !?

PLEXTOR has always been good with AUDIO protection :)

My drive can rip Key2Audio and Doc.Loc,these 2 audioprotections I can confirm, because I've tested them myself, and according to other users, also the LATEST Cactus DataShield 200....
The old version of CDS 200 stil doesn't work.....

PLEXTOR has always been good with AUDIO protection :)

Latest drives not anymore....I've read some reports about failing those tests....

Agreed. I have two friends with late model Plex's (40x and 48x) that hate them now. They cannot do quite a few of the latest copy protections without some problem or special fix.

Don't get me wrong, I love Plex (I have owned 2). They are great reliable drives. But it makes you wonder if Plex is listening a little too much to the copy protection companies.

I have 2 plex's and just got my first liteon 3 months ago. I love this drive. I have'nt had a coaster yet. While the plex 40x is killing me with the extra cd's it ruins. Even at 24x it has still made some coasters. It's liteon from now on and I can't wait for their dvd burner to be released.

Plextor is build more solid ,but you can buy 2 LiteOns for 1 Plex,so,even if a LiteOn dies after a few years of heavy usage, you simply buy another 1,and you're on again for a few years....:D

I think that the last great Plextor drive was the 12/10/32 S which is still the standard drive in SCSI duplicating towers and autoloaders. It weights as two modern IDE drives! Then things went downhill rapidly.
Lite-On drives are far from perfect, but still incredibly good for what they cost.

Some owners of 1 of the latest Plex models are complaining about hanging trays when opening or closing it,some LiteOn owners complain about noisy sounds........I guess that we have to live with the fact that there's NO perfect drive......;)

Nice post.
Like I've said before plexcrap!!! :D I also love liteon they are the best for your money, never again will I spend money on plexcrap!! If I thought about it I could come up with at least 15 reason why not to buy plexcrap, but plexcrap is just not worth my time. :D

Not one complaint about my Litey

Yep, I've got a litey and they do the job beautifully.

Model: LTR-40125W running on WS09 firmware.....

....not one coaster, burn my x24 media @ x40 all the time, no problems at all. Very happy with this great drive :)

Nice thread RW.

....DreeM :)

PC-GUY.... no, please tell us how you really feel about Plextor! :p

While I certainly wouldn't call them crap, it seems Plextor has not been at the top of it's game since the 24x models. I still have an 8x model that works great after 3 1/2 years.

You're right dxkim. My 16x plex is still burning everything just fine. It's the 40x plex thats giving me the coasters every now and then.
