105 Issue

Introduction to my issue
Ok here is the issue, the drive has been working great up until the last few movies that I have tried to back-up. I bought a spindal of 50 Shintaro DVD-R 1x speed blanks (the same brand that I have been using with no issues what so ever) I also bought a box of 10 1x speed Shintaros to try and replace some of the movies that got stolen when my house was broken into.

Now I have upgraded to the 1.33 fireware when I first got the drive about 6 months ago and have not had an issue.

Whats happening
Now with most of the movies I did in the 50 pack spindal only about 20 of them worked, the rest won't play in the DVD-RW, DVD-ROM, PS2, Stand alone DVD player. they just come up as a read or disc error.

Then some of the movies will work but only once, when I go to watch the movie say a week later it will not work and gives the same disc or read error mentioned above.

If I try and make a copy of a DVD that I have created before with a program such as Nero, it will cause the disc to fail and create a coaster. I have been using the latest Nero 6 but never had any troubles before all this started to muck up.

Now I have tried TDK, Richo, and some other DVD-R and the same thing happens all over, and it's not just limited to 1x speed blanks but 4x speed as well. All the programs that I have tried run right through and give no errors at all so I am at a loss to what is happening.

Programs I am running.
Most of the time I am using DVDXCopy Xpress (latest version), CloneDVD combined with AnyDVD (latest version), but have also tried programs like IC8 and DCS (latest version) and it happens with all of them.

My hardware specs are.
AMD 2600 XP Athlon
A7N8X mainboard
Pioneer 105 DVD-RW
512meg DDR kingmax 3200 ram
Seagate 40gig HDD @7200rpm
nVidia 4200TI video card
Liteon CDRW
Liteon DVD-ROM
Windows XP Professional

If anyone has any ideas please let me know, I am at a loss and getting frustrated by the second that it don't work.

Thanks for the time,
Fat Elvis

Def sounds like a media issue, you may have bought the same brand but they may have changed who supplies them and what dye is used. The best way to find out is to d/l the free DVD Identifier which will tell you what dye they are and who really makes the disc.

As Duracell said if you want trouble free media then any disc with a Ritek dye is the way to go usually though I have found plenty of cheap bargains and taken a chance in recent months and had no problems, especially some with a 2X Prodisc dye which were superb for me. :)

I used to have a 105 and found recordnow max v4.4 with the latest px engine to be the best for writing. Try using dvddecrypter then dvd2one and then burn the VIDEO_TS folder back to DVD-R. Use the best discs you can get (Ritek G04 works for me). If that fails maybe your 105 is defective. Like I said, I had one and before a year was out the laser degraded and would only write at x2.
