Mac OS 9.2 & OSX Tutorial (by Elkay_ps2)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully this sticky will help the mac newbie's out.
Fact: the Apple "Superdrive" in actually a Pioneer AO3/4 OEM with the tray front removed.
A Pioneer AO3/4/5 can be installed into any newer G3/G4 Tower, by removing the standard cd-rom or dvd-rom and fitting the dvd-r in its place. Once installed update to at least Toast 5.0.2 as well as MAC OS 9.2 Minimum and the mac will then be able to burn to the Ao3/4/5.
As for the Back-up procedures for both OS they are the same but you require a newer version of toast (5.1.4) to work on OS X.
MAC OS 9.2
Required software: Roxio Toast 5.0.2 (http://www.roxio.com)
(must 5.0.2 version or higher to recognize A04/Superdrive.)
MAC OS X
Required software: Roxio Toast 5.1.4 (http://www.roxio.com)
To make a straight copy of your original CD/DVD Use the diskcopy function within toast
Open Toast application, make sure your cd/dvd burner shows up at the bottom of the screen,
1, Eject tray & insert original, wait till it mounts and shows up in toast, it will display the disk type as a CD-ROM XA if its a CD game or as a DVD-ROM if your trying to back-up a DVD based Game.
2, Then click "record" the game will be ripped to a temp file on your primary scratch disk.
(make sure u have 4.7 BG free for a DVD Game or 700MB free for CD you can specify your scratch disk in toast preferences)
3, Once completed the disk tray will eject.
4, Swap the original with a blank disk.
(DVD-R or CD-R obviously depending on what type of game it is)
5, Select your burn speed,
(I burn all Cd's @ 4X and Dvd's @ 1x... feel free to experiment)
6, Click the Buffer Underrun Prevention option make sure its active.
(if ur burner supports it)
7, Click "Record".
Usual rip & burn times apply same as PC.
This method works 100% on Neo 2.2, Magic 2 & 3 chips. so will also work with every other chip.
Another toast related thing:
To Save an image of the CD/DVD to your hardrive in case your out of blank media ect, just select Save image from the file menu one the disk has mounted , before you click record.
(make sure you have enough disk space

How to Use Cdrwin Bin/cue format images.
To burn this type of Image file on mac is very easy,
1, Open Toast
2, select "Disc Image"
3, Drag the .bin file into the window.
(dont worry about the .cue file this information is added automatically by selecting disk image)
4,Click Record.
More formats like: .iso & .img work in the same way just drag the biggest file into toast disgarding the little 5-50 k info files.
I have been unable to get .cdi (discjuggler) images to work correctly on Mac If u know how to do it please let me know and I'll add it into this factoid, giving you the cred for your input of cause.
( I basically just need to know the standard post & pre-gap settings discjuggler users use as well as the sector size)
Just found this in relation to the .cdi stuff looks like a very long way round
but.... will work : http://dcxeal.virtualave.net/mac.html
