How to use Smartpar to fix corrupted downloads

When downloading movies, a lot of uploaders now upload PAR files (eg: Sonic-Knuckles.P01) to fix, Missing and Corrupted files. You will need to download these files also.

A lot of people have problems with Smartpar, to be honest the 1st time l used it, it took me over a week to work it out but I finally got there.

Now l am no expert, but l hope this will help out with some of the problems you may have using Smartpar.

Once you have Smartpar,
Click file,
Open Parity set,
And then browse to the folder you have all the files you just downloaded.

The only file you will see is PAR ( if for some reason the uploader didn’t upload PAR, it won’t matter as the PAR file is just the pointer for the rest of the P01, P02, P03, etc PAR files).
So then go all files and you will see a few Pars eg: P01, P02, P03 and so on.
Click on the first P01 and the rest will follow though.

If for some reason you get a message, saying “Can not be found”, well that can be fixed.
Your files just have to be re-named.

Now with Smartpar open you will see
eg:
Sonic-Knuckles.r01
Sonic-Knuckles.r02
Sonic-Knuckles.r03
Sonic-Knuckles.r04
Sonic-Knuckles.rar

But in the folder it might say
eg:
Sonic&Knuckles.r01
Sonic&Knuckles.r02
Sonic&Knuckles.r03
Sonic&Knuckles.r04
Sonic&Knuckles.rar

So you will see the “–“ has to be rename to the “&”.

Some people use a program that will rename the files to the correct name, but l have found it wont work right for me, I just do it manually on each file.

Another way to check what the files have to be renamed to, is go back into the folder where you have downloaded all the files and you will see a TMP file, open it in Word or Notepad and copy and paste the name back into the Rar files.
PLEASE note…what ever you do, DO NOT change the r01, r02, r03, etc extension, just rename the name and not the file numbers.

Now that you have done all that,
Open up Smartpar again and click Open Parity set.
Browse for the folder the downloaded files are in,
Click on the PAR file, if not there, go all files and click the P01.
They will all start to be checked again.
Up the top of Smartpar, it will tell you how many are Missing and how many are Corrupt.
You need 1 Par (any par) for each one Missing and Corrupt.

If any are Missing and Corrupt, it will now recover those files.

Once done, shut down Smartpar.

Now you are ready to go and extract your files with WinRAR, all ready for what you have just downloaded.
