Problems using CCE freezing using either FILM MACHINE or DVD2SVCD read in ....

OK i decided to make this a sticky here that a lot of people recently have had trouble with CCE locking up and freezing when encoding ...

A recent discovery by myself was that it was caused in my case and a few others found to be problematic ATI CATALYST™ drivers to be at fault

A change/upgrade or rollback/downgrade of these drivers has resolved the CCE freeze problems in several cases

So to sum up IF you have an ATI RADEON SERIES of card in your system and are having lockups with CCE then try downgrading or upgrading the CATALYST™ drivers and see if this resolves the LOCKUPS

hope this helps some people with their encoding problems

note that its also come to my attention that NVIDIA drivers have caused some issues with various programs too so if you have updated them recently this could also be your problem

      Unhappy Still not working

      Thanks Duracell.

I've never had any problem with TFM or CCE 2.66.01.07. I tried your suggestions with no success: clean system, no background applications, rebooted, etc. I also tried reinstalling CCE... followed your suggestions again... no success.

As I said before... never had such a problem like this... I used TFM right away with no rebooting of any kind and with applications running in the background.

If this helps, my VCDs have no video (obviously) but a still image that says: "AVISource: coludn't locate a decompressor for fourcc DIV4 (D:\Temp\TFM Avisynth Script File.avs, line 3)". This is strange as I can correctly play my AVI in Windows Media Player or Winamp. This is the same for all AVI I tried, even the ones I successfully converted to VCD some time ago.

There are the log files of my last attempt:

      Hi,

The stillimage you get is because you don't have the right codec installed. I seems that you have a DivX decoder but no Encoder. Please install the latest codecs and try again. Use GSpot to find out wich codec you need.

      this brings a new perspective in your problem; as The_Mask says, it is a codec problem, something is messed up in your system;

      Partial solution

      The_Mask... Duracell...

After my last post I realised a codec could be the problem. I tried uninstall/install DivX codecs again with no success. I tried some codec pack with the same luck.

I got tired so I went more radical... I used XP security system and restore my system to a previous "restauration point" (about a month ago when I returned from my vacations because I was sure my system worked smoothly at that time). AND IT WORKED... partially...

Codecs are fine and I can see AVIs correctly... TFM works converting to SVCD... but CCE (ver. 2.66.01.07) freezes when converting to VCD. I tried uninstall/install CCE with no luck. I have another (and comercial) AVI to (S)VCD/DVD program (that I used before finding TFM) that can do the trick (don't know why). The fact is that I like TFM very much and wolud like to keep using it... any ideas? Why can it be that CCE freezes when converting to VCD and not to SVCD?

Now I have the "old" nVidia video card drivers, sholud I update or keep them? I'm totally lost!

      Thanks again for you help...

VIPER_1069, I use CCE 2.66. Do you suggest uninstalling 2.66 and installing 2.50?

OK, I did this: install CCE 2.50... problems soved!

Any idea what could have happened to CCE 2.66? Is it better to use CCE 2.50 than 2.66 with TFM?

my problem is that the CCE freezes (all the values stop, there is no encoding progress) when encoding .avi files with frame rate 25.0000 during the second pass. the problem does not exist with the .avi with different frame rate than 25.0000 (23.9760)... what's more funny CCE freezes even on .avi's copy made under VirtualDubMod (direct stream copy), but IT DOES NOT FREEZE on the extracted part (for example 80mb) of the whole .avi...
the .avi files are fine (indexes and frames), it freezes when encoding big avi files (app. 700mb), it does not freeze with reference to extracted parts of the .avi...
